RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017
The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.
If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.
To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

"Intelligent Uniform" stops students from doing truancy
Quote:Since the beginning of the week, students from the city of Vitoria da Conquista, Bahia, will no longer be able to truancy. A "smart uniform" will tell their parents if students came to school - or "tell" if they did not pass the gate.
The system, based on radio frequency works through a minichip installed in the new uniform shirt, which began to be distributed to 20,000 students on Monday.
It works like this: when students enter school, a sensor installed in the entrance detects the chip and sends an SMS to parents warning of entry into the institution.
If, within 20 minutes after the beginning of class, students do not go there, notice changes in tone and parents receive the sentence: "Your son is not yet in school."
According to the Municipal Secretary of Education, Coriolanus Moraes, the idea is to keep parents informed about the frequency of students.
"We realize that many parents would leave students in school, but soon ran away to work and did not see if they came," he says.
"Then when we called for a meeting, they were surprised by the number of absences of the children."
Now, every three absences, parents will be called the school to justify the absence. If they do not attend, the institution can warn the Guardian Council and the Public Ministry.
In one part of the uniforms, the equipment is hidden in the school crest. In another, the sleeve is camouflaged in the middle of the sentence of Paulo Freire: "Education does not changes the world. Education changes people. People change the world."
The distribution, according to Moraes, aims to prevent students discover a way to circumvent the system - which, he says, is almost "impossible" due to a security system chip.
He also says the technology is tough. "You can wash, iron and fold," he says.
Altogether, the amount invested was $ 1.2 million. The estimate is that the system works for the first 20,000 students within 15 days. The remaining half should be contemplated until 2013.
Thoughts?

"To me everyone should have already been chipped a long time ago. Thus tricksters would think twice before robbing someone and commit crimes of all kinds. If technically possible, it should be placed as deeply, or more difficult to be taken."
That was actually a comment from the news.

Hooray, 1.2 million they could've spent on making the school better by hiring better teachers, renovating buildings, new equipment, etc. all gone down the drain.
Protip: If you want kids to be in school, make it so that they actually want to come to school, and make learning enjoyable, these uniforms won't change shit.
I hope these students start protesting and stay home from school in droves, because if they do, the school will loose a shitload of even more money for each student's truancy, and they'll begin to realize they fucked up as badly as they possibly could with this move.

I would love to go up to this scum and ask him if he would be alright with having the same tracking done to him. "How about a chip in your clothing that would track the days you arrive at your job as well as if you arrive exactly on time. Or how about the state or federal government implementing a civilian tracking system to keep an eye on where you were? No? Well shut the fuck up. Yes? Please allow me to introduce your head to my golf club named "common sense". "

Echo the sentiments on waste of money, etc.
Also some kids don't give a damn if their parents know they skipped school or not and some parents care even less.
but seriously what a way to waste 1.2 billion.
RE: "Intelligent Uniform" stops students from doing truancy
Mfw I would cut it out and hand it to the school staff, go home, get bitched at by my parents when the school called, bitch right back, and go to sleep.

And only a matter of time before hundreds of patients get them torn out in an mri machine / fried by a pointed microwave / cut out / deactivated by a bomb going off in the serveroom that processes all of the data.

My mom would get annoyed by all the messages. She'd cut the little fucker off, I mean if I didn't first. Besides, what if they are in the office? What they already do about attendance, it works just fine, I mean if you could say that. What needs to be done now is schools need to actually start adapting to their masses instead of focusing on what prison uniforms they will wear.

They'll probably do it at birth and make it somehow impossible to get it out... god I wish there were a conspiracytheorist icon I could pepper my posts with... except this isn't even in that realm anymore. It's becoming real life.
Go to work. Send your kids to school. Follow fashion. Act normal. Walk on the pavement. Watch TV. Save for your old age. Obey the law. Repeat after me: "I am free."

Dear Tumblrites:Despite your wrongly self-diagnosedPTSD, no line ofscientific evidencesuggests people can be triggered over theinternet. Triggering works through thesenses(i.e. smell, taste, touch, vision, hearing.) but it goes throughreal time; if you're not experiencing it in real life as it'sACTUALLY HAPPENINGin yourACTUALlife, youCANNOTbe triggered. The only exception to this is if you have aseizure, but then again, that's triggered byepilepsy(i.e. rapidly-changing flashing lights)NOT PTSD. Fuck this shit I'm just gonna go live in the woods like Thoreau. If in the future you see a ragged girl stomping around the forest carrying a copy of Walden, don't panic, it's just me
