RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Do you know what your rights are with the police?

I've been using this website for a good 2 months before i decided to join up and i was surprised that i didn't find anything on a subject that i consider the most important for people of all ages. Knowing what your rights are with the police. Not many people know this and they unknowingly give up their rights when dealing with the police.

I cannot tell you how many times i've had an encounter with the police before i discovered my rights that could have saved myself a lot of trouble. Esp. when i was ditching school.

These videos will help any average US citizen to know your basic rights during a police encounter of any kind.

The most important video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yqMjMPlXzdA

An explanation on why you should NEVER talk to the police
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6wXkI4t7nuc

I can assure you, that this information has saved me more times than one.

This is some of the most important information i've ever known.

Some basic points for people who don't watch the videos;

-You don't have to speak to the police (and you shouldn't) you can simply tell the police (politely) "officer i am going to chose to remain silent".
-The police's job is to confict people, not to be your friend
-You don't have to admit any wrong doing
-You have nothing to lose by not consenting to a search but everything to lose if you do
-Do are not required (in most states) to have an ID on on you unless you are operating a car. No need to present an officer with an ID that asks you on the street.
-It will not help to explain yourself to the police, anything you have to say can be said in court.
-If the police have to ask you for your permission to enter your home, it's very likely they don't have a warrent and you can refuse them entry (which you should do anyway).
-The police can and will LEGALLY LIE TO YOU.

I may have missed some, and this isn't a complete list. I would reccomend watching the video, esp. for all you under 18 people.

It's a shame that no one is taught the law before they are 18, and just shoved into the adult world with no knowledge about basic law. I guess the public schools feel that isn't important. Motherfuckers.

RE: Do you know what your rights are with the police?

I've watched all the know your rights videos and have concluded, through my experience with cops, that you have no real rights until you're 18.

No, this is Patrick.

RE: Do you know what your rights are with the police?

I haven't had any encounters with the cops yet, but I am fairly aware of my rights.

The plan for police involves running away.

Had to move on. Account is dead.

I don't get how NDAA could do anything though. Can't that only be issued by the president?

Yeah, but I thought it could only be used by the president, like if he requests it.
