RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

What system works best?

I always have a problem with politics: I never make up my mind. I always shift ideologies, and I never have one opinion on a subject. Are you like this? Are you only commited to one ideology? I find that everything has pros and cons, so I dont think its fair to say that one system of government is the best.

RE: What system works best?

I tend to look at all the systems.
They all have positives and negatives and ultimately meh.

The majority of systems theoretically work pretty well. It depends on who's running the show.

RE: What system works best?

My whole life I've shifted from Fascism to Anarchy. I still prefer Anarchy, but the most ideal system for todays society would be one that is as Libertarian as possible, with SOME form of authority. I don't agree with this, but it's what I think would work for the time-being. Something like a minarchy or pure Ancient Greek democracy.

RE: What system works best?

I'd like something with as much individual freedom as possible, but with a strong central power that works for the good of the individual and the whole (ie: aiding healthcare, curing diseases, preventing monopolies, keeping the cost of health, electricity, water, internet, etc. low, --- basicly keeping the individual from being gyped off, and allowing the individual to live up to their full potential without unnecessary outside interference)

I would think more along the lines of my own created idocracy but I would like a society tailored to what the founding fathers invisioned or a world like brave new worlds.

Look into political philosophy and political science. Shit's a lot more complicated than most people make it out to be. Especially look into freedom vs. equality, freedom vs. order, and that type of thing. What you have to do is decide where you stand on issues, and decide weather the form of government that best resolves those issues is ideal depending on how detrimental they are to personal freedoms, and that sort of thing.

There will be catastrophic downsides to almost every system, which is why the government has shaped itself into a thing that isn't REALLY bound by one way of doing things. You know what? I'm going to stop myself before this becomes a 10 page essay.

Not everyone will, nor CAN become REALLY politically aware. It takes a shit load of time to actually go through the arguments of each form of government, and the different forms of each form of government, and the reasons that form of government was implemented, the basic idea behind that form of government, how it plans on resolving certain issues, how realistic it is, if it can be implemented, and all of that. Most people in this day and age get the gist of things, but have no idea about the actual intricacies of government. That's a bad thing, but not everyone has the time to learn all this shit. If you're actually interested, start reading. If you just want to figure out the best form of government, good luck having a narrow view of how things really are, and why things are how they are.

Does any of that make a shred of sense lol?

The political field is very complex. I agree with you that it's a lot harder than most people make it out to be. Thats why I always change opinions on politics. I used to be a huge advocate of the free market a while ago, but that changed to a pure communist view point, then an anarchist view. Now I know though that these systems can all be run well, but they can also be fucked up by a bad leader. Good examples are things like the Stalinist soviet union. The soviet union was doing better under Lenin, it was actually on a real communist path. But when he died it all went to Stalin, who seemed to have forgotten his communist roots. Or George Bush junior. America was already on the wrong path when he entered office, but he fucked America up so bad that he made Nixon look like Roosevelt.

While I dont believe that any system is the best, I do believe that anarchy is the only moral system. No one has power over you, and you can do what ever you want. Even though I am not an anarchist, its the only system that doesnt force yo to act a certain way to adapt to it.
