RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017
The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.
If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.
To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

south beach diet
For the past three months I've been eating healthy via the south beach diet.
For the first two weeks you can't eat bread, pasta, potatos, fruit, or sweet vegetables. Basically I only ate meat and vegetables. This first phase is to stop cravings for unhealthy foods. All the recipes in the diet books are tasty and fairly easy to make.
The second phase allows you to add whole grain breads and pastas back into the diet, but in moderation. Fruits are also allowed.
The final phase is being mindful of what you are eating. Its not like counting calories, just remembering to eat healthy.
so far I've lost 20 pounds and it wasn't very hard to do.

20 lbs? Nice!
Losing weight isn't really difficult. I just straight counted calories and kept mindful of the foods I ate, I also jogged like 20-30 miles a week. I lost 40 lbs in like 4 months.

RE: south beach diet
I've been eating less (basically I wait until I feel REALLY hungry before I eat... mostly)... and go outside moar. Riding bike is good, ice skating & rollerblading when I can. I haven't weighed myself or anything but I am noticeably thinner than I was a month ago. So I'll just be keeping this up then
I don't know much about eating healthy though... and tbh I would get annoyed if I had to count calories all the time and only eat specific things. I'd rather make up for what I eat by sweating moar or something. Much more fun that way...

40 pounds is really good! I would lose more if I exercised but I'm too lazy. Next semester I'm planning to use the exercise room at my college, if I have the time.

I dont count calories. I eat healthy food when I'm hungry and thats about it. Breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner. And maybe a light dessert, it depends.

Ah ok, that makes sense.
Quote:Next semester I'm planning to use the exercise room at my college, if I have the time.
Exercise rooms are boring... riding bike outside is a lot more interesting... I wouldn't be able to stick to an exercise routine if it was boring. (As I haven't been able to thus far... until I started actually going outside moar).
Quote:Breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner.
I have like maybe one actual meal a day, and maybe 1 or 2 snacks. Not usually more than that. I tried those "eat several small meals throughout the day" kind of things... that did absolutely nothing, and in fact may have even made it worse because I ended up eating when I wasn't really hungry... and thus ate more than I needed to. But everyone's different. I know this really skinny guy that eats a shitload of food every day and stays skinny.

RE: south beach diet
I can eat basically whatever I want and never gain any fat, lol. Though the fact that I work out relatively often and basically never pig out on unhealthy stuff doesn't hurt.
