RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Age discrimination

http://www.libertarianrock.com/topics/c ... nstit.html
I find this article AWESOME!
Well, sorry about all the new topics been surfin the net all night (woke up at 8 p.m. and now it is almost 8 a.m.) so I've pretty much been listening to Anti-Flag, X, and The Specials and reading political articles and websites for almost 12 hours....
So I think in 2006 the biggest groups that is discriminated against are... people younger then 18. (Then I think homosexuals get 2ed place)
If I'm wrong just bitch at me but I'm tired and can't think of any one that would be worse sooooo....
Well why the hell can't we smoke, drink, or stay out past [curfew]? How about why can't we vote or drive?
[voting=a right,
driving= (not responsible enough)- Just about EVERYBODY is capable of being irresponsible beind the wheel
I'm thirteen and I can drive fine (believe me, this has been seconded)]
Well, I'm going on ebaumsworld good bye, my eye keeps twitching.... Biggrin Sleep

yup, i agree with you there. hopefully eventually people will catch on and see what they're actually doing. it's quite sad if you look back thru the history of humanity: there has really been a crapload of discrimination going on over the ages. after (much more than) 2000+ years we're only starting to stop it now (this past century - starting with black people)... that's pretty sad Rolleyes

Haha, Nice. Yea, I think that we should get to vote. I'm under 18 and I think the legal age should be changed to 14. Some sites you have to be 13 for them and I think that's stupid. This is the online world, where anything goes. We shouldn't be held back by our age.

Voting is a right.
If you're an American you automatically qualify to a right.
...unless ofcourse you're under 18

Point: Anybody, at any age, should be ably to vote.

Then maybe the goverment should make it so 10 is the legal age of vote and apply them to reading early. If they don't have are reading teacher, one should be provided for them before they turn 10 and register.

well most people learn how to read some words in like 1st grade so i think by time ur 10 that u would know how to read the ballet

of course when ur 10 u wouldnt know who to vote for so u would just pick someone because u probably wouldnt understand each others campaign promises

Here's my thought on the voting age.

If you lower it to 14, you lower the laws to 14. This means if a parent want to kick you out at 14, you're gone. If you punch somebody, that's assualt, end of story. If you commit a charge that draws the death penalty for adults, you get one too.

So, then it's age discrimination in reverse. How is it fair for youth to get away with things that adults do, then walk away with a clean record, come 18, and possess the same rights?

We don't have one.
We have a Frag Arena, but that's more for, "ZOMG! YOU ARE LOSER!"

Anyway, Adults get shit worse when they get in trouble. Of course. And kids want the same rights as adults. So they deserve to get the same punishment. You get the rights, you do the time.

i don't think a kid would get raped seeing as most prisoners arent very fond of child molesters.
