RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Hello there.

As you can see by my name, I am an "adult from the other side". I am a kindergarten teacher with a bachelors degree, a proud parent with a loving husband, who, like most of you, typed in "School sucks" on an internet search engine to see what teenagers think of school. The very first link happened to be this site. I was a bit open minded at first and looked around and read the forums for days. And oh my, what did I see.

I saw a bunch of disrespectful teenagers whining and complaining about their oh so terrible adult mentors. All of you want to be individuals, so what do you do? You come here for a bitch fest. Funny how you perfectly fit the "stereotypes" you hate so much. I see a bunch of juveniles confused about their sexuality, experimenting with drugs, endless whining and drama, etc. I just cannot take any of you seriously. You're just teenagers.

And yes, as a mother me and my husband regularly discipline my children when they do not obey my orders. You may call it child abuse, but I'm the parent. None of you can and ever will tell me how to raise my own children. I'll shield them from any dangerous and corrupting sites like yours.

I may give you guys a second chance, but as for now I seriously doubt that. Go ahead, cuss me out, use your vulgar language. I'll just laugh.

Re: Hello there.

LOL you resort to your typical name calling and blaming instead of trying to understand me. I lost all my faith because of that. You all can blame Absentinsomniac for that.

The OP combined with the fact that the person found the basement so quickly is a dead giveaway that it's a troll.

Re: Hello there.

Hello there. I'd like to great you with a more normal, friendly manner, but in all honesty, I'd rather not after reading that. It seemed a tad over the top.

Now as I'm not sure, you never can be over the internet, whether you are in all actuality a concerned teacher or a forum troll, I'll give you the benefit of doubt, and proceed to take you seriously until other information is provided.

So, to begin with, you say we are all rude and merely here to group and whine together. Well, in some parts of this place, yes, it may be. But sometimes it's easier to complain over the internet where no one knows you and can't truly comment to your face with all the other issues. At other places on this site, it could be for serious discussions about things such as political views, or asking for advice. Some people have a more 'mature' view of things, others just a different view of things. No reason to complain about them. In all honesty I know more adults, teachers even, than teenagers who act as what you have described. Perhaps you may even be one of them yourself, you certainly come across that way.

As for the way you treat your children, well, that is your prerogative, and as a parent, legally, you have a say over how you raise them up to a point. Maybe they'll benefit from your way of 'teaching', and they may grow up to be what you consider a model citizen. Just don't be surprised if they grow up to resent you terribly.

Well, I believe I am done for now. I truthfully don't know how to convince you that here at SS, we aren't all stupid, whiny, obnoxious, tiresome, ignorant, and all around idiotic teenagers, but in the end, I don't really want to any more. Have a nice day. Smile

I recently read a great book. It had all my favorite things. Murder, rape, torture, and a whole bunch of strange disturbing sexual preferences.

If I am such a "troll", why are you teens replying to me?

Re: Hello there.

Just teenagers?
Little miss, I'll have you know that I'll be 86 this year, I've lost 2 wives (Sheogorath rest their souls), seen and done many things, met many people, and fought valiantly against the Allied forces during World War 2, I've much wisdom to share.

I've been with some of these young minds for years, and as much as I've taught them, they've taught me more, I've talked, laughed, cried, tried some inter-generational kink with a couple of them.

So ma'am, I'll have to ask you to show them some of the respect you no doubt demand.

Re: Hello there.

"Just teenagers"?! No, this cannot be! I am at least 105 years old now! I forget my exact age... must be old age... wait, why did I start typing this?

Quote:And yes, as a mother me and my husband regularly discipline my children
Oh, it should be "my husband and I". Is that what you teach to your kindergarten kids? You should be ashamed!
