RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Absnt's blog.

Not sure how much I'll use this. Probably just for shit I have to get off my chest or whatever.

Right now, I have to make school my "primary action item" ("I'll give you this strawberry" for the reference, and another for the second reference.)

Unfortunately I have a 58% in Spanish and my guidance counselor suggests that I get to work if I want to get into a college. Not to mention, my parents are going to fucking kill me if they end up remembering to ask for my report card. (I've instructed all of my siblings to avoid references to school and avoid anything that could possibly bring them to ask us for our report cards... My siblings have similar motives.)

So my solution to the college dilema is going to be to actually work hard and get shit done. It's a necessary evil. None

Oh well, at least these fuckers will get off my back.

Re: Absentinsomniac's blog.

My parents stopped asking for my report card when I went to college, which is weird because I'm actually doing well in college. Also I'm not a fan of language classes, but I am a fan of siblings who know when to keep their mouths shut!

Yeah, language classes can be a bitch. They're survivable though... If you memorize a lot of shit.

Re: Absentinsomniac's blog.

A few days ago I was skipping a class to go to the tech wing and chill with a few of my friends. The teacher doesn't care, as long as you tell 'em you came from study hall. So, on the way there, I had to take a shit. I strongly dislike having to use the schools shiters, so it was kind of awkward. I wouldn't have if it wasn't for my belt being to tight due to some of the little holes for the metal thing ripping. Anyway, another kid came in and he was taking a shit too. I mentally stated "Fuck it" and let it rip as loud as I could. It was more or less diarrhea. Shit smelled pretty bad and I made audible sounds of relief.

I could tell the kid was trying not to laugh... Smile

I think I've taken a shit in a public/school bathroom like once in my life.

RE: Absentinsomniac's blog.

Up at like 4:54 in the morning finishing the body of a 10 page research paper that was due a while ago. Lol. I passed math class for the year, I think. I'm fucking happy. I think I'm good for the year. I still want to finish this research paper though. Not sure why I'm even doing it, but I am. I'm not really even sure what I'm supposed to be doing for it, but fuck it, I'm going to do it anyway.

Can't wait to get out of this hell hole.
