He's stressed out about school, and I go and talk to him a bit while he talks about how he's getting a D and doesn't want to do the work and feels overwhelmed.
I pretty much stay quiet, but rub his back and tell him that of course there's nothing wrong with feeling that way, and that he's not a failure.

Then, he asks if I can hand him his guitar, and starts to play to get his frustration out. I leave the room, and go to tell my mom how stressed he is. I don't dare tell my dad, he'd just say my brother was stalling. But my mom starts telling me to tell him that he needs to start working on his homework and that she wants to talk to him and crap. I just say 'you can tell him that, and be nice, because he was crying and is really upset.'

Then, I'm in my room and hear my dad raising his voice.
This tears a hole in my chest because he's talking to my brother(again) just as loudly and ageistly and stupidly as he used to talk to me.
So I go in, and stand near the kitchen table where they're all sitting, my brother's schoolwork spread out in front of them.

My brother isn't crying yet, but my dad is almost yelling 'why didn't you do this stuff?'
My brother mumbles 'I didn't want to.'
'It doesn't matter if you want to, you have to do it!'
My brother starts crying again.
' Why are you crying? Just DO THE WORK! WHY don't you want to do it!?!'
Mom: 'Don't spend an hour analyzing why he doesn't want to do it, lets just get it done.'
'NO, this is oppositional CRAP!'
By now I'M trying not to cry, and am giving my dad a look that could probably kill.
'Don't look at me like that, Alex!'
I turn away.
Mom: 'Don't yell, the windows are open'

I start closing the doors and windows, and my dad keeps going on about how it's crazy that my brother doesn't want to write his work down when the teacher assigns it, since it'd HELP him SOOOO Much in his classes, and how he's just being defiant and overdramatic.
I have to walk outside at 8:30 in the pitch dark just to keep from yelling at my dad.

My dad can be a real bastard sometimes.
A REAL BASTARD.

And I'm freakin' serious, I love my little brother probably more than anyone else on this earth. When he fell on a cinderblock and scraped his knee when he was nine, I almost fainted when I heard him crying. (I was 11).

And to hear him going through this same 'you just don't want to do the work' BULLSHIT that I went through is killing me. I start feeling physically sick.

Jesus Christ, he's yelling again.

TL;DR:
My dad's an ageist, insensitive bastard(right now, most of the times he's cool)
My mom just doesn't get it
My brother is miserable
And I can't do shit about it.
