RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017
The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.
If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.
To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

Some of my friends have parents rich enough to give them psychiatrists. What I find funny is they're all being treated for "depression". Everyone I know who gets any kind of mental help at all has been diagnosed with "depression". This is kinda funny, but also sorta sick if you ask me. I know that if my folks had the money for that kind of thing I'd be popping pills like nobodies business. It seems like anyone who isn't completely complacent is mentaly damaged nowadays. Any imput?
Nowadays if you say something like I don't eat as much as I used to you are depressed. eat more you are depressed, Hate school than you are depressed, Low grades depressed, Skip school, depression, argue with parents, depressed, not people friendly than you are depressed. Its just to me and excuse my simple term a bunch of bullshit.
Either (1) the psychiatrists are milking the parents for as much cash as they can get or (2) our society is fucking teenagers over. I'm going for #2. Actually, I'd expand that to include everybody not just teens.
Yes, the pharmaceutical industry is massive to say the least. The more kids with prescriptions the more profits for them. The whole "depression" rage is probably being fueled by them as part of some marketing, PR campaign. You know, like how all the anti smoking ads are secretly being funded by nicorette. I have been thinking allot lately about what exactly is the cause of depression. Does it really exist? Or is just a made up disease like Repetitive Pocket Searching Syndrome. As fate would do what fate does, the other day i was reading the newspaper and came past some bullshit animal rights article about how pigs where farmed in "horrid" conditions, kept in tiny little "cells" so small they couldn't even turn around to sniff their asses, and fed i can't believe its not food. Living under such conditions the pigs developed all kinds of diseases, one of them being, you guessed it, depression. So, you put a little piglet in a little holding cage and never let it out, feed it crap, and never let it socialize with its own kind, and the pig gets depression (shortly before turning into delicious bacon). Thats how pigs get depression. So how can we take the pig example and apply it to humans? Easy. You take a little humanoid and you put it in a little cage, you feed it all kinds of crap and never let it socialize with its own kind.
So by now you get my point right? If your depressed then your a pig. Well, kinda...
If you look at humans in a pure Darwinistic sense you will see that by nature we are, hunters, gatherers, tribal, territorial, and driven my very strong desire to mate. Now take a human and put it in an classroom, office, supermarket checkout, all day long keep it in a little cage. Then send it home to another little cage, apartment, broken home, mummy and daddy don't get along. Feed it food out of cardboard boxes, paper wrappings and plastic sealed bags. Sit it in front of a television watching bullshit tv shows or put it in front of a computer so it can jack off to anime porn. Do this and your human will develop all kinds of diseases, one of them being, u guessed it, depression.
These animal rights freaks took time out of their ever so important existence to tell the world all about pig injustice. What about human injustice? Society is a 2 by 4 foot cell so small i can't even turn around to sniff my ass. And then i wonder why i'm so sad...
dionysis Wrote:How could there NOT be depression if we are BOMBARDED everyday by commercials, advertising, marketing, pretty boys, etc. that tell us we are ugly, fat, pimply, nasty and unattractive? They brainwash good-looking people into believing we are outcasts and should be looked down upon - especially since there HAS to be treatment out there that works, right?
I think the whole structure of society causes depression. We aren't working for survival anymore. We aren't under threat. The more technology we have the more isolated we have become. No real incentives for anything anymore. Everything is flashy and material. Material possessions corrupt and lead us down a dark path. It's like playing a video game called Life. After a while, you get used to it and it's not fun anymore... it starts to get boring and suck. The catch is, you can't get out of it because sometimes it is fun and it hooks you in. The graphics, sounds and immersion are pretty cool and some of the people are cool. But it starts to suck, and you get sad all the time. Like a lot here probably, I feel alone in the world - without anyone there to guide me along. I'm lost in the game, no cheats, and I'm apathetic to even playing it. That's where drugs come in.
If you want the answer to depression, look to where depression is non-existent. Tribal societies, it's how we were meant to live. At least they have a purpose to what they do and goals and an outreach with eachother. I have no goals, no purpose, no outreach or community and no desire to play a capitalist game of material worth where I learn nothing substantial for living and am judged worthy or not based on how much money I own, how hot I am, and how big my dick is.
And those psychiatrists are just taking advantage of people by prescribing them drugs that don't even solve anything. Depression is not a disease, at least not in most cases. For some people it can be caused by chemistry gone weird, but I think that even that could be solved if their circumstances didn't suck so much.
Taking drugs for depression is kinda like putting a bandage on cancer. It may hide the symptoms but it doesn't solve the problem. (I stole that quote from somewhere).

well, i just saw a shrink a few days ago and she didn't try to perscribe any drugs for me. and i think our insurance covered it so it's not like seeing a therapist means you're rich or anything. but i do think it's true that they've gone overboard with the Ritalin & others.
I think Buenaventura Durruti is a pretty cool guy. eh kills fascists and doesnt afraid of ruins. The quickest way to kill a revolution is to wait for it.
They had my little brother on ritalin for a littlebit, but then my mom got smart and started researching the shit and found out all the shittyl little side affects.
Hmm yeah kirby My dad split from my mother when I was young and didn't know he hit her than so I was lucky. As for the ritalin I had to take it when I was 5 to 8 years old because the school recommended it. I was class clown and they wanted me calmed down. Question is true the medicine calms kids down and makes teens hyper. I heard it somewhere.

Psychiatrists aren't related to law in any way, just medicine. I don't think its a conspiracy, and I used to be on Ritalin, I even crushed and snorted it a few times for a cheap buzz, but Ritalin increases suicide thoughts in children, so I don't think its worth it. Therapy is proven to help ONLY if its confidential, 'group meetings' are what happens AFTER the psychiatrist talks ALONE with ALL the family members or those involved, if a child is tricked into giving their feelings of their life or parents, and the psychiatrists tell them then noone gets better which means increase in abuse and/or neglect and prolonged treatment, plus they can't get out of it or the psychiatrist may call the cops for child abuse.

But that would be common sense, and you know how hard people try to avoid using it at all costs.
70%, though? What would be interesting is if someone could find reliable statistics on the actual percentage of kids who take anti-depressants. And if it's a ridiculously high number, the argument that it's the environment's fault might actually get through to a few people.

i could ask people at my school. that be good showing them it aint us but them. maybe do it for a project, that way it wont be as awkward and attract as much attention.

i wouldnt say its bullshit, everyone has their own way of dealing with stuff.
some ppl are like u said attention-babies, they want attention. those ppl can be annoying, but some of those cases have kids that dont get maybe enough parent love of something, so they make up for it by being like that. i personally dont hate anyone for being "depressed", whether they really are or not....everyone is different

I was diagnosed as bipolar, and then later my Psychiatrist changed his mind and diagnosed me as depressed, when I knew I wasn't. He prescribed me some prescription and I refused to take it.
Quote:I'm in therapy and i agree. i get it for free and at first they diagnosed me for depression, 1 bc i just got through my bf's death and 2 bc...LIFE SUCKS! now im mostly just in for MORE depression...WTF! these ppl are so stupid! and im stuck with them for at least a yr. theripists!
