To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

school starts once again

hello everyone,

I found this site by accident, and I'm glad I did Smile School is starting in a week where I am (Ontario) and I'm feeling depressed. Hopefully posting here will help alleviate the pain Razz

I'll be in for what's going to be the worst year ever. Most of my friends have moved away, and the classes are going to suck more than ever. There are many things that I hate about my classes, so I'll try to list them to make it easier to read:

-High school english classes have killed any interest I had in classic literature (assigned reading, over-analysis, too much bullshitting)
-I work my ass off for good grades while my classmates come to class high and doped up (they still pass, without any effort)
-The teachers just plain suck. They don't teach. Instead, they put up pre-fabricated notes and want us to regurgitate everything on the next test.
-I've been pressured into taking the only AP course the school offers: AP English. That class is really going to suck ass, seeing as how english class is my least favorite class and I abso-fucking-lutely cannot stand over-analysis of old books I cannot relate to (The Scarlet Letter, anyone?)

There's a lot more about school that pisses me off, but I've written too much for one post already. Since this forum is for rants, I expect to be posting here a lot Razz

If you're school is anything like mine (I'm in Ontario as well) just stop making an effort. You can still pass and probably even get good grades without trying very hard.

lol nope, and to be honest i'd say a "true" stereotypical canadian would be hard to find. most canadians live very close to the U.S. border so we're pretty americanized. in case you were wondering if i played hockey or if i hunt for moose or bear, the answer to both those questions is no Razz

the AP thing just recently caught on in my area. i wish it hadn't because i dislike the whole concept of it. it's just a way for the college board to make money off students who have been brainwashed into thinking that they NEED AP courses to get into university. to top it all off, most high school teachers can't even teach a regular class properly, let alone an AP one. basically, the equation goes like this: AP + bad teacher = fail.
