RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

TRIGGER WARNING: THIS TRIGGER WARNING CONTAINS TRIGGER WARNINGS!

Dear Tumblrites: Despite your wrongly self-diagnosed PTSD, no line of scientific evidence suggests people can be triggered over the internet. Triggering works through the senses (i.e. smell, taste, touch, vision, hearing.) but it goes through real time; if you're not experiencing it in real life as it's ACTUALLY HAPPENING in your ACTUAL life, you CANNOT be triggered. The only exception to this is if you have a seizure, but then again, that's triggered by epilepsy (i.e. rapidly-changing flashing lights) NOT PTSD. Remembering a bad incident is NOT the same thing as having a flashback. When you remember, you think; when you flashback, you feel.

Re: Thinking of trying Fallout 3

Energy weapons are generally the most powerful weapons available in the game, and the ammo is actually semi-common, especially after a certain faction appears in game.

The alien blaster and fire lancer are almost cheats at times, but the ammo is supper limited, even if you have mothership zeta, the 2 seem to be bulky but powerful antiques and the aliens moved to a weaker but sleeker design with a new standard ammo.

Power armor kinda sucks brah, it's big, heavy, slows you down without mods, makes too much noice for sneaking, and it doesn't carry it's own weight or make you almost impervious to small arms or radiation like real power armor would, or actually does canonically for that matter.

Dunno what most of that means, but I'll keep it in mind. Thanks. Also, GOAT exam? lolwut?

Like the high-end NATO/9x39 Soviet weapons in STALKER. Got it.

Like the Gauss Rifle and RPG in STALKER. Got that too.

So it's all the negatives of the Exoskeleton from STALKER, without all the "turning you into a walking tank" stuff. Goddit, and thanks.

No they are actually pistols.
Alien blaster shoots a ray that disintegrates your enemy and Fire lance is kind of like an alien flame thrower.
They do have Gauss rifle after Anchorage though.

I figured they weren't gonna be a high powered electromagnetic energy rifle and a rocket launcher, I was simply comparing them to the two arguably most powerful (but undoubtedly the rarest) weapons in STALKER.

Fuck that, stealth armor and Jingwei's Shocksword. You can kill an average level opponent with two swipes if you sneak attack critical them.

Also speaking of high powered electromagnetic energy weapons. Motherfucking Tesla cannon.

Re: Thinking of trying Fallout 3

Currently just disarmed the unexploded nuke, gotta get irradiated for this one person, got info about my dad from this sleazebag, discovered the stash of this druggie, and cleared a grocery store out of raiders or bandits or something. When I first found some makeshift tripmines in the store I said to myself "Are these mines? They are. Oh my god, it's like Christmas." Then I found a fucking mini-nuke.

Oh, and I got my hands on a G3 rifle. Mmmm.

Fallout 3 is okay but a bit of a disappointment without mods.

Are you kidding me?? I creamed my pants the first time I played. I would recommend playing through all the vanilla game before you mod it though. The mods give it more replay value.

Nope.

Vanilla game was much too easy, unbalanced and the world kind of got boring after an hour(admit the first time I stepped out of the vault was the best part of the game).

Re: Thinking of trying Fallout 3

Question. Is the wasteland part of FO3 like The Zone from Stalker, where you can just kinda roam through it, and NPCs fight and appear and whatnot entirely on their own?

Re: Thinking of trying Fallout 3

You see some fighting and whatnot, but it's dependent on the player, things only spawn when you get near, and even places you've been to don't really have any activity unless you're in the interior cell or within a certain distance if you're in an exterior.

TL;DR things don't exist if the player isn't there.

Re: Thinking of trying Fallout 3

There is mod called mtc travelers which helps bring the stalker feel to fallout 3.

It adds different kinds of npcs to the game that travel the world and do their own thing and some even live in the cities which helps make the wasteland feel not so empty.

It adds pickpockets who steal caps from you if you get to close, psychopaths who have gone mad from the wasteland and try to kill and travelers who well travel along with more traders.

http://fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=6044

and this one is called bos patrol which adds brother hood of steel groups that patrol the wasteland to help the feel.

There is another mod that doesn't disturb the core gameplay.

Marts mutants which not only gives more vivid design to monsters but also adds more into the game.

Last one and really helps bring the stalker feel.

This mod adds 200+ random ambient noises to fallout's existing list. You'll hear dogs barking, far off gunbattles, mosquitos spinning around your head, owls hooting, etc.

Re: Thinking of trying Fallout 3

Advice, don't get FOOK, used to be okay, used to just add lots of new weapons and clothes/armor and meds and food and shit to factions and the loot tables, but they dirtied it up.
It now touches several quests, modifies tons of npc's, changes the follower system, makes several existing npc's followers and adds a few new ones, modifies a bunch of existing places, and touches just about everything else in the game.

It's a fucking compatibility nightmare, I'm surprised people still use it.
I would recommend Apocalypse Armory, 20th Century Weapons, Better Living Through Chems, Vault 101 Revisited, and if you get the DLC, Mothership Zeta Crew.

Also, pick up FOMM, FOSS, and Fallout3Edit, you WILL need all 3 if you want to use any sort of real mods.

Agree whole heartedly with zero also recommend book of erache.

like apocalypse armory but is a replacer and adds 200 weapons into the game.

Can use both appocalypse armory and book of erache together if you use f3edit.

avoid 20 century weapons as apocalypse armory already has those weapons included.

Wait, I think you're mistaken about 20th Century.
Maybe I'll peek with TESnip later and see.

OH Fox, and if you end up a big energy weapon user, give Energy Visuals Enhanced a try, I don't use it myself because it causes me a good number of CTD hotspots and shit, but it seems to be a problem most people don't suffer.

Hmm energy visuals never crashed me but then again I got their patches.

Oh I'm mistaken.

Classic Fallout Weapons (CFW): Not necessary. Every weapon from CFW has a home in Apocalypse Armory.

20th Century Weapons: Not officially supported. Unfortunately, the way that 20th Century Weapons is implemented makes the creation of a compatibility patch very cumbersome. A merged patch is definitely required.

from the compatibility page.
