RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

love

http://info.rise.za.net/Love
i'm tired of people trying to define, love or say what it is.
since i think only you can know what love is .
like when some asks you if they are in love they should know them selves, and if someone says your not in love how do they know.
and i think everyone feels love in a slightly different way than someone else or rather they perceive it differently then someone else.

Telling people to do something without giving a reason compels them to rebel not to obey-Avenger

We need to learn not to be afraid of making mistakes all the time-Avenger

FACTS OF LIFE:
1.life sucks most of the time
2.sex is natural and it feels good
3.everybody can be an asshole
4.most people are idiots

It's hard to describe, which can be annoying sometimes, but on the other hand, it's something you should show, not explain in words... the more you try to explain it, the less sense it makes Razz

Re: love

Yeah, some people just don't "get" love for some reason. Maybe they never will. Don't let 'em ruin it for you.

Re: love

Love is amazing. You ever see an old couple who've been married for 60+ years? That's love. An artist so dedicated to his work he has time for nothing else? That's love. A young boy and his beloved dog? That's love.

Love's manifested through a lot of different things, but it's essentially the same thing throughout it all.
It's also pretty damned illogical.

Re: love

Dude, that's what I was about to type, in less words though. If you want to get all technical everything is in your head. And so what if it is temporary? I mean, so are we. We live what, 70-80 years? People always ask what the purpose of life is, and I only have one thing to say. If you have to ask, don't bother with it. For me, I'm enjoying this life, so no matter what happens I'll at least have had a short period of pointless laughs. That and I hear there is nothing good on TV in hell... Wait a minute... Are we in hell? 'cause I'm flippin' through the channels and I'm not seein' much. Confused

It depends, though. If they're actually curious to find something meaningful to do with their lives, by all means, they should explore it. But they shouldn't expect anyone else to just tell them what the purpose of life is... because it differs for each person.

I don't know much about quantum physics, but an interesting analogy is how we live in a holographic universe. A schizophrenic dream. Nothing is real, but it's real in that we experience it. I did go through some existential angst over this but now I don't think we offer anymore reality to the situation by equating temporal=pointless because it would be equally pointless to kill ourselves or continue living forever. You would run out of things to do and think about, so the challenge is to prioritise in the most enjoyable way. And fortunately nature does accommodate the fact that most people are afraid to kill themselves.

It amazes me sometimes how time seems to pass both quick and slow, and I'm not going to deny my experience of anything because the event would truly have been nothing if there was no one to experience it. I'm interested to know what it would be like to exist outside our constructs of time though.

I wouldn't define love.

Love is what it is.

Its beautiful and fulfilling.

Its extremely difficult to describe without killing it.

Anything that ever happened or will... one condition, it has to be amazing.
