RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Hey soul can you do this for me real quick

I need to write a speech on my hero(you can tell where this is going huh?) and although I don't believe in heroes if I did you would be mine. Could you maybe just post a little bit about yourself. Sorry if I seem like I'm sucking up.

http://www.school-survival.net/about/
On that page you find...
http://www.school-survival.net/about/aboutsite.php - history of SS.
http://www.school-survival.net/members/show.php?show=31 - SoulRiser's Bio.

More stuff on that page, but I think those two will be a good place to start.

I highly suggest Mobb Deep's albums The Infamous and Hell on Earth, if you have not listened to it yet.

Who can't agree with that. Except for my teacher. Boy is she going to be pissed when I do Soul for my speech. And no I'm not just doing her(god that sounds wrong) to piss her off.

Re: Hey soul can you do this for me real quick

Here it is so far...

Good morning class and Mrs. Heywood. I had a bit of difficulty trying to find my hero. Then I realized I didn’t have one. I had a… heroine? Anyways, I have chosen SoulRiser. Most of you will not know her. She is anti-school and anti-corruption. A lot of you will be confused with this and think she is anti-learning. However she holds that school is no place to learn. SoulRiser is my hero because she has helped me get through tough times. She has helped me survive school by creating school survival <dot> <net>. She has also helped many others such as liq3, Pyokinetic Punker, Hannyness, psychopath, Alucard and magic. Yeah those are all internet names. Deal with it. She supports learning and doesn’t condone violence. SoulRiser believes in free speech so nothing gets deleted off of her site. Not racist comments not insults not blasphemy not comments that would make your parents ban you from ever visiting it again. Many people that have come to this site are now home schooled or un-schooled. Un-schooling is where the student teaches him or herself. Soulriser started school survival in 1999 as a place to vent about school. She threw a sloppy page title, a bit of amateur web design and all that was left was a title. School survival was the first thing that came to her mind. How true that would become. She went through school being bullied by everyone, even the teachers. In years nine to twelve she went to a private school. In year nine

Hope you like it so far!

Re: Hey soul can you do this for me real quick

Constructive criticism?

It needs to flow more. It sounds like THIS happened. Then THIS. And THIS. Bang bang bang bang.

Also, naming people from the site is pretty irrelevant.

Also, 'many' people who come here are not homeschooled or unschooled.

Re: Hey soul can you do this for me real quick

Sorry. I'm no good at speeches. Besides. I said many people who have come here are home schooled etc. Besides I don't care how crap a speech it is I'm still failing. I suck at public speaking and there putting this on my English report. I mean drama I could sort of understand.

Just for accuracy's sake, most people who come here are still forced to go to school. But feel free to discard what I said. It's your speech.

Re: Hey soul can you do this for me real quick

No, I respect your opinion here it is.

In year nine she found it a wondrous place full of great things. Everyone respected her, everyone was nice and even the work was set out as interestingly as possible. But the school changed over time, conforming to the various authorities and parents. It became more like the school she had once thought she had gotten rid of. Gradually she found herself coming home frustrated. And so in her 11th year at school she thought she needed a place to rant and vent about school. School survival came into being. After year twelve she considered stopping the site. But because of the response she got from students, intellectuals and even parents and teachers, she continued. And all I can say is that I’m glad she did. This is why SoulRiser is my hero and if you don’t like it you’ve already been brainwashed by the system, and I fell sorry for you. If you find you need to vent about school or rant about something or even if there’s something bugging you, we have a forum full of people ready to help you.

It's good you passed, but hooray for schools marking you on absolutely worthless things... "eye contact"? Gee. Some people are just anti-social. School really pushes their limits when they intrude into people's lives.

Stance and body language?
How the fuck is that important?
I agree with thunder on the over intrusiveness of school.
Nonetheless, I'm really glad you did well and maybe even got through to some people.

Just out of curiosity, who did the other students choose as their heroes? Was it dominated by celebrities, historical figures, or people they knew personally?

20% personal, 60% celeb, 15% sport, 5% the first female to go to med school. The girl who did med is pretty smart, and she wants to be a doctor. A good choice. I'm sure she'll make a great doctor.

Re: Hey soul can you do this for me real quick

if i get a similar assignment i am going to do the site in general, or maybe soulriser too. hope you dont mind. im not too good at public speaking, but free advertisement is free advertisement. plus it must be fairly cool, standing up in school and saying your heroine is somone who created an anti school site, and them not be able to do anything about it. hope no-one minds that i copied or that i kind of brought this thread back from the dead.
