RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Forced 3 hours internship out of school

So back in October, we had to sign some stupid contract with an employer within one week for a 3 hours internship out of school. The teacher didn't give a damn whatsoever about helping us to find where to get his stupid project.

So. Teacher drops a pile of shit on students->Students have to suck it up->Employers get harassed. Seriously, which employer got time to waste for a THREE hours intern? So I got my dad to sign it since he owns a garage now but I never did it(the internship). The career counselor was almost whining at me because I didn't get to do a internship in the IT field->What the eff did you expect anyway? No one got a internship in their fields of interest, they just do it because they have to.

I have to give in some document I forgot to do friday so I start doing it yesterday. The first question asked in the document is "In 15 lines, explain what you want to go get in that internship experience". What? You forced me to do this bullshit and you ask me what I want to go get in that experience? How about...

"Grades because this pointless enforced assignment counts."

Then I have to make a research on the job(On everything you need for the job), describe the work environment then ask about 10 questions to the person who's accompanying me through the intern, why the hell does each time we do something career related(Like going to see college courses or have a visit somewhere), we get a document that's enough big to fill the whole time we're there. I can't even ask questions I want to ask.

And it's not done yet, there's another page asking me what I thought about the internship experience Wtf and a page where the employer has to rate us(Gonna ask my dad to fill it today).

How comes career choice class is so useless and have to piss the fuck out of everybody out there(employers, students, parents, other teachers)?

three hours? wth? whats the point in that?

Re: Forced 3 hours internship out of school

schools say theyre preparing you for a career but they dont give a shit what career YOU want to do

it's not that I'm lazy, it's that I just don't care.
