RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

there's no link that says "this" either..theres no links anywhere. just a scary picture, instructions, the definition of torture, and then the answer box.

Edit: You have to click "Submit" instead of hitting the Enter key.

Here's the text if you don't want to copy it. I checked it (and it's usable like that), but there still may be minor errors.

Hidden stuff:
It's pretty straight-forward once you have it written down, and there isn't anything meant to mislead you. If you want to try letter substitution, change the original text to all upper-case letters, and use lower-case when you replace them to keep them separate. (Colours would work too if the original capitalization were important, but I don't know if you can search and replace by colour.) Then look for frequently used words and start guessing. =P

Re: torment

Is anyone still playing? I'm stuck on the block level, and apparently most people on other forums are as well.

Hidden stuff:
This may be relevant: http://www.bokler.com/poe_broza.pdf

That cipher uses case (lower-case, upper-case, and small caps) and direction (up or down). The obvious qualities of the blocks are direction (facing up, down, left or right) and colour (red, blue, green), so they don't match quite right, unless you're supposed to ignore some of those.

I would assume it uses an existing cipher, or a simple variation of an existing cipher, because previous questions only required a search engine and a little reasoning, rather than much knowledge of cryptanalysis.

Re: torment

Someone start this again. D:

These are the only ideas I have right now:
  • colour of the blocks is probably irrelevant since each letter is only shown in one colour
  • the name of the image on the page "5ecder7" is an anagram for "creed 75" which is a model of teleprinter, although I'm not sure whether this is significant to the method of solution or is possibly just a key or something
  • the title of the page is "shareyourtoys", so maybe it has something to do with the playfair cipher, although it's not at all obvious how, unless the only relation is that it's also a digraph cipher[/list:u]

The hints which he's given (which I can't find right now) point to it probably being a digraph cipher, and the number 7 being somehow significant (possibly having to do with the teleprinter thing.)

Re: torment

Interesting, but I have no idea what I'm doing. I'm only on the second stage. This really is torment....
-is of no help-

Edit: Third stage now. I can't do puzzles for shit, so I guess I'll pull out. I'm glad you shared the link, though.
