RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

School Filter Terms

So, I haven't been on here in a while, so I decide to go on. I originally found this place by searching google with the search terms, "I hate school."

So, I searched googled for, "I hate school." I get the filter blocking my search saying that I cannot search for this because it falls under hate and discrimination. Excuse me, this is a joke.

To take a step further, I decide to see what does fall under the terms of, "hate and Discrimination." "White power," is of course blocked, "black power," of course, is not.

What kind of censorship bullshit is this? I am not allowed to search for anything contaning the word hate? Public and mine included is filled with hate and discrimination. Of course, in the eyes of the administration, way up top, it does not exist, and we must never allow the young children to have there minds tainted.

Keep in mind my friends the fish rots from the head down.

Re: School Filter Terms

i cant stand censorship an any form. i just makes my blood boil, especially when school censors you or forbids you from doing something that is considered "politically incorrect" or "agenst society's standards" yet you haven't ever meet a single person who hasn't done it/said it
the establishment thinks they are the know all end all for children this is BULLSHIT. they have no fucking right to govern what you as a human do. and they put up the most ridiculous rules and policies to prevent this, such as web filters that filter out "all things" harmless and its a joke i have been simply surfing the web at school and ran into un-blocked porn sites etc.. its stupid

See what Madoxx has to say about them.

Re: School Filter Terms

yea i know what you mean cause my school blocked me searching tanks for a ww2 project while this other kid was looking up how to make nukes in your garage and it didnt block that

life is just blah blah blah. we hope for blah, and sometimes we find it. but mostly its blah. and waiting for blah. and hoping you were right about the blahs you made. and when you think you just got the whole blah damn thing figured out, and your surrounded by the ones you blah. death shows up and blah blah blah.

Web filters are generally pretty stupid about what they block and don't block. Also, here's a proxy you can use to bypass that crap, at least until they block it: http://proxytopia.info/glyp/

Good ol' positive racism.

The teachers accounts aren't blocked. And they suck balls at making good passwords. Half of the crap is the name of their favorite student, or the first name or some crap. Hence I get full use of the interwebs. Fun as all fuck.

* Puchiko laughs at all the Americans. Come over here, schools can't afford filters!

But I understand what you mean. When we were in Bavaria, Jakub wanted to check his e-mail on the library computers. seznam.cz, was blocked as "Pornoseite" (pornographic site). I have no idea how it could come to that conclusion, a Czech web engine and e-mail provider is porn? Apparently, German filters think so.

Wtf No. I thought my post made that obvious enough... When we were in Bavaria

But yeah, I might have just assumed everyone would know it was a school trip, 'cause I shove my nationality in everybody's face, plus I made a thread about the exchange trip. So, sorry for the confusion Wink

Protip: Read the little letters under people's avatars, they can provide key information.
