RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Global Warming

Some guy in another topic complained that he was really afraid of global warming and found it to be one of America's biggest problems.

Guess what? Global warming isn't a fucking threat, you simple-minded eco-terroristic assholes. Florida won't "disappear", and the ice caps aren't going to fucking completely melt. God fucking damn it, I fucking HATE it when people are so fucking stupid and ignorant when it comes to global warming. Global warming is a natural process that happens ALL THE FUCKING TIME. The world is stuck in an infinite cycle of global warming and global cooling, and we have a very little effect on it. Driving cars aren't going to make Antarctica melt, you stupid assclowns.

Has anyone here (besides me) ever heard of the Midieval Warm Period? If you don't, it's basically a global warming that happened between the years of 900 AD and 1300 AD. Holy shit! They had global warmings back then too! But there weren't any cars! How could it have happened?

BECAUSE GLOBAL WARMING IS A FUCKING NATURAL PROCESS!

Fuck you if you believe in this kind of brainless global warming shit. You'd be better off dead.

Re: Global Warming

It's a threat because our current agricultural logistics are based on the current climate, not a warmer one or a colder one. Whether or not we are causing it is inconsequential to me, if it's warming, we should prepare otherwise crops that (you and I) depend on could get disrupted/fail putting a strain on relevant economies if not entirely starve a large population.

This isn't about agriculture or the economy. This is about all of the fuckwits here running around panicking that the world is going to disappear under melted Antarctica and trying to force people to get rid of their cars.

I have no opinion in that debate, but there is no consensus on either side among scientists (I mean, relevant ones like climatologists and meteorologists) whether we're causing it or not. It's bad that this has turned into a political thing and not a scientific thing.

Re: Global Warming

I think Gorebull Warming is happening, but not the way most people think it is.

Over time, the Earth has stages of extreme heat, extreme cold, etc.. This cycle has been repeated for millions of years, this is simply another stage of the Earth's life. Sometimes, these stages have not been extreme has previous ones, but stages where the temperature has gone up and down for a long time. Gorebull Warming is just an attempt to make money. Man has nothing to with the warming of the Earth, it's natural.

And if Man did have sometimes to do with it, and if Al Gore is telling it like it is, then we've fucked ourselves badly, and the fact that some treat Global Warming like Armageddon, if Al Gore is right, how in hell could we stop something like that? We can't "reverse" something like that.

"I heard a joke once. Man goes to doctor says "I'm terribly depressed". Doctor says "I know just what you should do. Poliacci the clown is in town, go see him, you'll be cheered right up." The man bursts into tears. "But Doctor, I am Poliacci." Funny joke. Roll on snare drum. Everyone laugh."

Re: Global Warming

It had to be said. Honestly, us humans simply cannot fuck up th planet to the extent people claim. Majority of the "green-house gases" in our atmosphere come from animals. ANIMALS. FARTING. True, us humans do like keeping animals for food, but animals were around way before we were. Any warming that can be done would of already been done. I do agree we should be looking for other power sources, but simply because I don't want to live in a petrol-dependent world when petrol runs out. Not because of global warming.

Re: Global Warming

People who say global warming is a lie are just regurgitating what oil companies want them to think. Real scientists know the truth, Al Gore was just trying to publicize it. That probably wasn't such a good idea since not many people take him seriously, but the facts can't be ignored. The ice is melting. Polar bears are finding it harder to survive. And the level of greenhouse gas have risen in synch with our use of fossil fuels. These are scientifically documented facts, not partisen rhetoric.
You don't have to like Al Gore, but global warming is real. Get over it.

All of that is happening. You're just leaving out all of the facts.

The ice caps are melting because they are melting. It's just not going to melt entirely and flood the earth. It's not going to happen. Again, the earth is in an infinite cycle of global warming-global cooling. The ice caps will melt, then freeze, then melt, then freeze, ad nauseum.

Greenhouse gas are rising. But they don't contribute enough to global warming to make it a threat. I bet that within the next century, the world's geography is going to be the way it is now, if not "better".

Go drive your SmartCar and protest gas and factories, faggot.

P.S. It's a well-known fact that scientists are being paid to say what they're saying right now.

Re: Global Warming

I think you are over-exaggerating what will happen. If the ice caps melt, every continent won't magically submerge. But, when the ice caps melt, the sea level rises. Although both sides I think are over-exaggerating just a bit, I think it could be a threat in the long run. It may not affect us in our lifetimes, but it could affect the next generations. I don't think anyone knows how serious it could or couldn't be.

its a fact even if all the ice caps melt the oceans well only rise 27 feet. so we'd loose some cities that it

*facepalm*

BMP, I know the continents aren't going to be submerged. Waterworld was a decent movie, yes, but there isn't enough water in the ice caps.
But, dude, the oil companies are paying scientists to say that its not happening. The Bush administration deliberately altered an EPA report to make global warming look like less of a threat. Even the government knows it now. All the real scientists do too. They've been saying it long before party lines were drawn. And even if it won't flood the entire planet, that's not the problem. The problem is what effect it will have on the delicate cycle of warm and cold water currents that control our weather. Throw that out of balance and who knows what might happen? Maybe nothing, maybe a hurricane that will make Katrina look like drizzle.
You can't deny that humans have at least partially caused this. Doesn't it seem just a little coincidental that the Earth is going through another climate cycle right when human technology's greenhouse gas levels spike? Come on, use your head. It doesn't mean you're a hippie, it just means you have a fucking brain.

Re: Global Warming

Rebelnerd, I'm not denying that global warming is real. Or that is it dangerous. Or even that humans might be causing a small part of it. I'm just saying that even if everyone stopped using fossil fuels, the effect wouldn't be much, since we are not completely causing it.

It's not a coincidence.
THE EARTH IS IN A CONSTANT CYCLE OF GLOBAL WARMING AND GLOBAL COOLING. I said it twice before in this topic. Why don't you read for once?

And I know there's a global warming going on. I'm not saying there isn't one; I'm saying you're stupid if you think the earth will die because of it.

Dude, there's other kinds of pollution besides smog. Not all pollutants are visible to the naked eye (not to mention that in many cities yes, actually, you still do see a brown line. just not as many in America).

BMP, I know the Earth goes through cycles. You didn't read what I actually wrote. I just asked if it sounds a little convenient for companies who pollute the air to say that the Earth's latest cycle perfectly follows the rise in human emissions. If the cycle was already in progress when humans started using fossil fuel, then you would have a point. But right now the evidence is undeniable: humans are a major cause of global warming. There really is no other likely explanation.

Whether humans are the main cause of global warming or not, the exhaust emissions aren't helping anything anyway.
