RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

If I know my shit, you probably won't be able to buy any Tylenol. Some pharmacies won't allow anyone under the age of 18 to buy any cold medicine, as they can be used to get high.

"Nearly forcing" you guys? What about the people that don't even want to go to college?

[flashback]One of the reasons my senior year was one of the most, if not, the most, depressing school year of my mandatory education career was because of all of the college shit, and in general shit about the future. People kept asking what I wanted to do with my life, which college I was going to, etc. I didn't fucking know and I didn't fucking care.

Now granted, they're only trying to "prepare us for 'real life'." Y'know the same thing every level of school does. Elementary prepares you for middle, middle prepares you for high school, high school prepares you for college, college prepares you for "real life (whatever that is)" and "real life" prepares you for death. Too much preparing and not enough living, but I'm going off on a tangent.

Like I said, granted they were only trying to "prepare us," but some things were just out of line. For example, at the beginning of the school year, my English teacher made an assignment in which we were to write "college letters" (I forgot the actual name of them). It was basically what you type and include with your application when you're applying for a college. Kinda like a resume when you're looking for a job.

I was pissed off about that. Yeah, I suppose that it was nice and convienient for people who were planning on applying for colleges, but what about people like me, who, God(?) forbid don't know what they want to do yet and therefore don't want to waste time going to college? Then it becomes a waste of time. I realized this then and decided not to do the assignment. But my grade suffered. Okay, so my grade goes down in HIGH SCHOOL for not doing something that has to do with COLLEGE? That's some great fucking shit right there. [/flashback]

Oh, and I'm sorry that you're feeling under the weather.

I bought 120 tabs of Tylenols this lunch, some cold medicine and a bottle of pepto bismol. If they'd have refused, I would have bitched at them because we aren't in a communist country.

Wadekarl-> The career counselors literally harass students who don't apply for college and they keep telling us about college and how much college is important in our lives. And yea, we have a class for college and career crap and we have to do documents on what we want to do(Everytime it's about the same thing) later if we want our grades in that class.

I didn't know WTF I wanted to do in college until... well, I never did figure that out actually, but I took a year off after school to at least pick something. The actual course turned out to be stupid but the people were cool. Point is... forcing people to pick is stupid.

How's your cold?
(lulz, I asked that to my friend once and he was all like "I hate that question! My cold is doing absolutely GREAT, but I feel like crap!") Razz

Re: Headache, Dry Cough

LOLOL. Fucking school, trying to control the student's lives. I mean really, epic consistency fail.

You're all individuals and we respect your interests so you should do something like GET INTO FUCKING COLLEGE RIGHT AWAY NOW NOW NOW NOW.

I mean, the ignorance is astounding and the only reason anyone thinks like that is because they're all brainless sheep who have pre-programmed responses to everything.
