RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

Leaving school and moving to college

I have 3 months left of school (including holiday) I can't wait, is college any better than school? Im going to be on a ICT course, i need 4 C's to get into college that i don't think im going to get simply because my school has failed me hugely - I've asked for help so many times, been promised to have a helper teacher but i got none, heck i even asked for extra homework.

This morning I went into school and was immediately called out to go to the front office were 3 of the senior teachers were sitting in chairs and started saying how my attendance was 60% and dropping and how my uniform is never perfect... Then they started to threaten me saying how they would "punish" me and keep me in detentions for the rest of school (3 months) and suspend me for about 2 weeks (i'd be happy though) and how they would revoke my "prom" privileges along other stuff such as make me go litter picking... but the thing that ticked me off was they started saying how bad my parents were and how they could face jail time.

What the hell is wrong with them, i really dont give a shit what they think we only have 3 months left why are they doing this to me - Im now old enough to see though their bullshit and stand-up for myself so after they wound me so much I walked out the room and phoned my parents.

Anyway, is college any better? Do they still treat you like your 2 years old and try to push their "authority" over you etc?

Re: Leaving school and moving to college

I wish I was going to college, I was university bound until I realized 4 more years of school was 4 more years of school, so I have to stay a 5th year in high school to get the Bio. and Chem. Courses needed for the funeral directory program.

So essentially, they threatened you for absolutely no reason with revokation of privileges, 'chores', detention and suspension, and on top of that, threatened your parents with jail...

I'm assuming you're 18 if this is your last year with 3 months left. My advice would be to use your legal rights to bring those fuckers to court, preferably in a lawsuit (robbing the school blind FTW). They OPENLY THREATENED you and your family, moreso the latter, with little to no logical reasoning behind it. I'm rusty on my law, but I'm certain that can constitute legal action. Look it up if you want.

If you can't, don't feel like it, or don't infact have that option, simply start screwing with the school behind their backs before you leave. You know, use material from this site, rile up all the students you can, leave some carbon footprints on their asses.
