RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

I don't think I want to get married.

I don't think I could. Marriage is a religious ceremony based on Christian ideology and the Victorian age when they actually listened to 'classical music' and the marriage song. So its fairly outdated.

promising to devote your whole life to one person is kinda big. no matter who they are, there is little that would make them any more special then the next to person. If I disagreed I would be speaking unfairly out of Bias. What if I were to meet new people? Would my wife yell at me for talking to a woman just because she was a woman?

People with trust issues or people who do it to follow society get really suckered into this marriage thing. People who have never read the Bible also get married.

I've been thinking about this because alot of people my age have this big fear "What If I NEVER get Married". So I guess the topic of marriage also gives people fear. Not to mention the feeling before the alter where you begin to regret everything.

I don't think I could marry unless the Chick was Uber Special and even so I think we'd be Compromising each others freedoms just because of a petty bias toward each other.

so what do yous peeps say?

I don't think I'll ever marry. If you do meet somebody I love, I don't need a marriage to say I do, I can just be with her, and not have my freedoms restricted.

Who am I? Who are YOU?

Indeed. I don't want to get married either, but your reason is different from mine. I just don't want to get married simply because I don't want to.

Marriage isn't a religious thing, it's just that it's very deep rooted in the Christian process.

Re: I don't think I want to get married.

We all need to start a anti marriage club.

To me only an idiot would want to even desire the process of marriage as its just a hole that destroys relationships and limits freedom even further and then there's the scurge of having kids..

Ugh..

Re: I don't think I want to get married.

Are you sure you guys went to school? I mean, they have a thing called sex-ed in Australian schools.

But seriously, I don't want to get married, it's restrictive, and what happens if you want out? You get half your possessions taken away, whereas in a regular relationship it's "I own this, you own that". "I bought this, you bought that". "We bought this together, how 'bout we sell it out of fairness?" "Nah, you can have it, <insert remark=corny>"

How does it restrict your freedom? By keeping you from fucking other people behind your wife/husband's back? You shouldn't be doing that anyway.

I dunno, if I found the right person I wouldn't mind getting married.

When love hit me, oh and it does know to deal sucker punches. Pow. I knew immediately that I would always love this person. I am not much of a fan of commitment or religion and yet...there is much to be said for the idea of having another half of yourself.

Scribble down one vote for marriage here baby.

Re: I don't think I want to get married.

I'm a firm believer in unconditional love, which makes marriage look primitive and restrictive in comparison. If the people getting married really loved each other that much, there'd be no need whatsoever to promise to stay together. They just would - because they want to. What more do you need?

Something along the lines of polyamory is a more ideal situation, even if you don't find more than one person to be with, it's the thought that counts - letting people be free, and not thinking you have some kind of right to demand that they not look at/talk to/ hang out with/ go out with anyone else.

If people get married and then years later realize they're miserable together... there's no point whatsoever in staying together anyway just 'cause they promised they would. I don't think that's "noble" or "courageous"... it's cowardly. And mean. 'Cause they'd probably both be happier and better off if they split up.

Yes Soulriser I agree.

I remember telling a girl once that if she could find a person more compatible with her than me then by all means go right ahead. Smile

Re: I don't think I want to get married.

I think the solution is to go back to the olden days when you could have like 4 wives.

wife one - cooking/cleaning

wife two - shopping/support

wife three - sex

wife four - sex again

There you go, you got the whole package.

Had to move on. Account is dead.

Yeah, the hell with marriage. If I have a significant other in the future who asks if I wanted to get married, or if ANYONE asks, I will tell them the exact same words, "The hell with marriage", and if they want, explain.

Re: I don't think I want to get married.

Married women are high status prostitutes You pay them with a contract of security before they sex you.

the low status version is a hoe, whom you pay 300$ then and there and they sex you.

While open minded women who loves sex for the pleasures of sex and has the free will to do what makes her happy for free are seen as sluts by society .

-
Women love sex. But they don't want to be outcasted by society, so they avoid things that make them slutty even though they want to. Its another form of tyranny in a different theatre of war.

So they pretend to be the socially accepted marrying types (High Class Prostitutes)

Re: I don't think I want to get married.

I disagree with all of you.

If i were to find a woman that i truly felt i wanted to spend the rest of my life with, and if I were to loose her I would feel as if there were something missing at the end of the day. And if she felt the same way about me, I would want to do something, legal marriage or not, that promised both of us to stick it out through the hard times and rely on each other no matter what. Also marriage gives you some nice legal loopholes with your spouse.

Re: I don't think I want to get married.

I've fallen in love... and I identify with you on the symptoms with that "special" girl.

but after studying the psychology of how it happens its not as unique or unworldy as people make it out to be.

Also my view is also shared by Johnny Soporno who has loads of experience in this field. If you want to read it in its full context.
