RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

Study leave cancelled

Last year students could go on study leave but for some reason the headmaster decided against it for our year (3 months left) because he thought the "troubled" students would not study at all.

Now I really hate school, i find it a complete waste of time... So every so often I get suddenly ill, most probably from all the stress of school and deadlines that have been set when they didn't need to be, on these days when i'm to ill to go into school I tend to get lots of coursework done, by lots i mean 11-20 A3 pages of it compaired to about half a page I would do in school

Is there anyway that I could convince my headmaster to let me study at home where I have a nice comfy chair that doesnt give me backake like at school? Perhaps a letter?

Not really.

Screw the headmaster, convince your parents rather. Then they can let you stay home or tell the school idiots you're gonna be homeschooled or something.

I cant say im going to be totally home schooled as my GCSE exams are coming up, the year before us just got to come into school on the dates of the exam, take them and go home...

This sucks - I'll try convince my parents but they have been brainwashed too :(

Re: Study leave cancelled

Okay I tried my best and just got a letter home from the school saying how important it is to stay in and how there will be no Study Leave for anyone. I tried my parents they ignored me saying "Everyone has had to do it"

I really hate school the whole attitude and how they treat you like a 2nd class citizen, I wonder how many laws the school breaks everyday...
