RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

My introduction

Hello Everyone
My name is Johnathan and Im 17 (at the time of this writing, gonna be 18 in two months).
In case anyone's been keeping track, I've been lurking around here for awhile and leaving comments in the news section and the ramblings... I've also been reading the forums on here and after awhile, I've decided to join not too long ago. Prior to all of this, i found this site via Google (I put "school sucks" in the search box haha) and I've read almost all the articles since they are very interesting (I also come on here often to read the news updates in the sidebar)...

Ill be posting on and off on here because I'm dealing with my personal life and school of course...
I think that is pretty much all I have to say Smile

Re: My introduction

Just so you know, half the people (probably 97%+ actually) came here via "school sucks" in google. I think I'm a rare exception Biggrin

Anyway, I hope you and your other skeleton soldiers will enjoy your (presumably :( ) short stay.

I'm pretty sure your avatar is the album cover of a melodic death metal album. If only I could remember the name....

Anyway welcome.

Interesting... Now that you mention that, it reminds me of this one album that i used to listen to. Its MegaDeth, so far, so good, so what (i know my avatar isnt the album cover but it just got me thinking as my avatar remotely reminded me of MegaDeth)

Anyway, thank you for the welcome Smile

It was actually a desktop background that i found here: (the site that i got it from is blocked because im posting from a school laptop, ill post the link to the background when i get home). I decided one day that i would crop out part out of the picture and use that for a buddy icon for aim (and the avatar for here).

By the way, thanks for the link, i was actually trying to figure out where the picture originally came from as well one day...

Re: My introduction

Alright, so I'm a little embarrassed after saying that something went wrong with my one post because i discovered that there is something wrong with the browser that i was posting from that was causing my post to come up as if all the words were reversed (found it out when i viewed the thread with another browser)

Leave it to me to already make a bad first impression to the community Rolleyes

It's not a bad impression, I thought it was funny. Anyway, start posting in other places, I can't wait to hear the noob's opinion on the topics we have here.

Welcome Smile

My first thought was also "nice avatar". Oh yeh, and I think most people actually come here by typing in "i hate school", but it's almost the same thing. Smile
