RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017
The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.
If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.
To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

*Did I also mention my dad stated that the only way I could live a good life is if I get a good job that i'll probably hate and I want to become a computer engineer
My mom even says I can get the computer until I change my attitude about school and raise my grades (1 "C" and a "D", oh the agony and horror)
This kind of thing makes me angry. It's like those people who happen to be called your parents are keeping your own money hostage and won't let you use it unless you satisfy their arbitrary demands. That's worse than stealing, IMO.
If you can't convince those bucketheads to let you homeschool or do something else, just refuse to play their stupid game. Make them physically drag you to school, and then sit there and read interesting library books instead of doing classwork. Teach yourself, even if they try to stop you. And note the irony in teachers/parents trying to stop you from learning in class.
@ Homeschooling,
My mom and dad both work and can't find time to homeschool, I threw out E-schooling and a trustworthy website and my dad shot it down by saying they are a bunch of losers who just take your money then teach you nothing, then went on ranting that school is good for you

Re: Guess what? I'm screwed.
What you have to keep in mind is, no matter how completely screwed up it is, your dad does want what's best for you. Obviously he does not KNOW what is best for you, but it's something to remember.
Adults went to school such a long time ago that they have forgotten what it is like to be forced to go every day. My Mum always says "it won't matter to you when you're my age", but that's ridiculous because what happens now AFFECTS who we are as adults. Also, with that attitude, it's like saying nothing matters ever.
Back to the point. Maybe your dad is unwilling to home-school you because he thinks he'll do it wrong and mess you up? Is he the kind of person who believes "well they're an institution, they MUST be right"? You have to prove to him that just because they're trained to 'teach' (and I say 'teach' because we all know how little teaching actually goes on) doesn't mean they are not assholes.
He's just afraid you'll be unhappy if you aren't in a well-payed job. Prove him wrong.
Good luck!
