RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

How to secure your SS account.

Here's what I did:
Got a new gmail account, answer to security question was nonsense (i.e. 1903oijfokj21), password is a random string of numbers of letters, I changed my SS password so it's not the same as the email account.

Is this good enough? I still don't understand what he's doing to get into people's accounts. Noo

Also don't advertise your email or messenger in your profile. Actually, just don't have anything in your profile. Nobody reads that shit anyway (except Justin). Just delete it all.

If you get on IRC, don't actually put your real name or email in your profile or something.

If you post on another forum, remember that Justin knows how to use www.google.com. If you have a unique username or something and you're using the same username on both forums, at least make sure you don't make any information public in that forum too (that he can use to get access to your account or something).

Someone sticky this so everyone reads. I'm getting sick of this shit. Fuck you Justin.

What should Gaiyara do Onii-chan? ♡

By the way, if you have any old accounts, make sure you do the above to your old account as well.

Justin isn't real. The mods actually have access to everyone's passwords and do this just to fuck with us.

Passwords are saved in md5, which means they can't be decoded. No-one has access to any password, not even the moderators. It's a totally different thing that they can change passwords, but...

Re: How to secure your SS account.

This stuff is so easy, and completely worth it. And as someone else said, if you get an email from SS saying something, and a link takes you to a screen where you log in DONT log in.

Re: How to secure your SS account.

for your info to the guy who thinks md5 makes u secure

for a start,md5 is oneway encryption but can be cracked by the having a large list of words, then converting them to the encryption algorithm used which in this case is md5,then comparing to the hash and if they match, well theres the password Wink

i can tell you from experience that it only takes me less than a minute to crack an md5 hash consisting of 6-7 characters of a-Z

then there is alternativly online crackers like gdataonline.com or plaintext.info yellowpipe.info etc

dont make a simple pass of football12 go for something like

f0@tb4%l! or something

anyways just a tip,idk if u make crappy passwords, and lol justing gets into ur email by using the hash from the forums db.

so dont use the same 2 passwords, also cross site scripting and cross site request forgery are other methods,so its simple, stay logged out of an account if your not using it Wink

also clear cookies if u dont need them

Oh, I imagined something like this, but I never knew it was possible, something on the lines of:

For example, if you have the password "abc" it outputs as "21lk3j123l1327-ekjff3598t7-relvh4358734" [minus the dashes], you could try to break up the characters into code, for example "a" = "21lk3j123l1327". But that means it could be reversed.

What I've been thinking [though I say this again, I never did any research into this] is that each character has a different code depending on the place of the character. For example "a" in "abc" may be 4l2k3j423jk4, but "a" in "bad" may be fkl234923jkxdlwfj.

Let go of all desire for the common good, and the good becomes common as grass.

Re: How to secure your SS account.

you got all your encryptions like md5,sh1,des etc but one way encryption means it cant be "decryped"

you could change just 1 of the 32 chars in and md5 hash and its changed completly

a = 0cc175b9c0f1b6a831c399e269772661 in md5 but you change it to 0cc175b9c0f1b6a831c399e269772662 it could be something like this

dg45&jfs%$%ad87dg45&jfs%$%ad87dg45&jfs%$%ad87dg45&jfs%$%ad87dg45&jfs%$%ad87dg45&jfs%$%ad87dg45&jfs

Re: How to secure your SS account.

I'd like to reiterate the importance of securing one's account. I had a brief scare last night, my usual password had stopped working, so I asked Darthmat to lock down my account for a bit, and then I went on to change all my passwords, as I'd been using a very easy to crack password in a bunch of locations, and didn't want them to be compromised. I got everything fixed up right after a few hours, but goddamn I wish I had just used a better password beforehand. It would've saved me a lot of trouble.

Oh, also, can somebody please truncate that post? Page stretching posts are a pain in the ass.
