To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

I dont think someone should abandon their values just because its hard for them, besides, just BEING a teacher is bad, because u enforce the stereotype that kids 'arent ready yet' and need to go through 12 whole years of school, besides, he's not teaching them anything useful.

just because your a teacher doesn't mean you stand up to the values the school teaches.
and he teaches elementary schoolers and i think reading and writing is pretty damn useful. I'm not saying you couldn't learn it else where but elementary school serves it purpose. after about 3rd grade though it starts to lose any valuable information.

TA: He's a teacher because he enjoys trying to actually educate people. He knows the system is broken to all fuck. He's just there to make it a little easier for kids to get through. Furthermore, he actually works in a position at an organization, where if a student's rights are violated, and they send an e-mail to him with the details, he will call the school and tell them how wrong they are and how badly they could get sued.

And did no one read my post? SnipeMe is DESIGNED to be narcissistic, hostile, and cruel. It's where a bunch of people shoot the breeze whilst ripping on each other. There's no overlying cause and no reason to be nice, so naturally, it gets quite venomous sometimes. Though the quality of the flamewars is actually good enough to be somewhat entertaining, instead of cringeworthy, as in the Frag Arena.

And, Faby, Galen was inspired by The Best Page In The Universe to create SnipeMe; however, they have a completely different style. Like, y'know, how Galen's rants are usually serious and about real world problems, instead of Maddox's little one-offs designed to entertain.

So, in review, here are the similarities between Galen and Maddox:
They both rant on their web pages.

Here are the differences:
Galen is serious, Maddox is just fucking around on the internet.
The entire style in which they structure their little rants.

It's the difference between Edgar Allen Poe and woeisme666. Yes, they use the same medium, and their styles may show some very passing similarity, but if you actually look at what they're saying, it's completely different.

I can understand if people don't like the way SnipeMe runs, and how people treat each other there. That's fine. It's probably better for you to stay away.

To say that all teachers are "the enemy" is, btw, exactly the same as when adults say that all kids are irresponsible, stupid, etc. I know MANY kids who *are* irresponsible and complete morons, but I don't make the mistake of thinking that all of them (or even a majority of them) are that way. As for teaching them something useful: I'm the computer teacher. I'm probably teaching them the most useful shit in that whole building, besides reading and writing.

Yes, my forum is a horribly abusive environment. It's that way by design. The weak masses who let words affect them so much are not welcome. MOST of my forum members are inactive; they just couldn't hack it. I'm glad they left. Those who are still there participate in a small but meaningful community. We don't tolerate stupidity unless it's for our own entertainment purposes Smile
