RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

Playing Call of Duty 4 on a school computer

One of my friends found an easy way to get around all of the blocks on my school's computer. After you enter your username and password and login, there's a second box that pops up where you can enter another password for some reason or another, but it's never used. Basically, you log in, wait for that second box to pop up, then disconnect the computer from the internet. Then hit the enter key to get rid of the second box and log in. Then re-connect the computer to the internet. At least at my school, you'll have total access to everything.

Using the method described above, a friend and I installed Call of Duty 4 on a computer. The computers are actually pretty good for gaming - the game ran at a constant 50 f/s on medium settings.

Discuss.

The second box pops up when you open up Internet Explorer correct? If so this would have been feasible at my school.

Re: Playing Call of Duty 4 on a school computer

No. It's the normal login box, then immediately after you hit enter, if you entered the correct username and password, a box comes up with three text boxes: one for the server, one for the computer name, and one for a second password. The first two cannot be changed, but for the last one on certain computers, if you enter "12345", you log in as a world language student (you have access to programs used by world language classes). If you leave the area blank and continue the login, you are logged in as a student.

Also, when logged in as any kind of student, the only programs you can use are the shortcuts in this Novel ZENetwork thing (I think that's what it's called). Basically, it's a folder with a bunch of shortcuts in it. Right-clicking is disabled except in select programs, and access to the actual desktop is restricted. Shortcuts in the taskbar cannot be used. The start menu only has the "shut down" and "log off" functions.

That's quite epic.

This may be an possible method to solve all of the blocks problem I got right at my school, the internet security is just so darn strict that with the method founded will not work to solve the blocking problem. What an epic find you got.

Re: Playing Call of Duty 4 on a school computer

That reminds me of when some Chinese kid came over and helped us put Counter Strike on the computers. It was all in chinese, but we still had fun.

Or, at least, right up until the point where the school were wondering where all the precious Gbs were going and deleted. It took up too much space, apparently. Because after all, a game that needs 96 RAM and a 500mhz proccesor definately needs 6GB of space, doesn't it?

Re: Playing Call of Duty 4 on a school computer

I've done this before - but I got redirected to the administrator of the entire school network's account. I could have done some aswome damage, but I was flipping out, because they can expel and sue you for that, so I just sort of logged off and pretended like it didn't happen (until lunch when I told my friends.)

We use Novel too.

I believe that it works with all Novel systems.

offtopic: The funny thing is it that you could delete deep freeze on our schools computer, And it cant redo itself since its deleted. Then proceed to download a series of viruses and hardcore porn files with really obvious icons on the desk top like "Hot oral" "That one hot Jamaican bitch" And "Porn links"

ontopic: Wouldn't teachers notice you playing call of duty? (Then again i sit on my ass and play flash pacman for the whole period, Its just in another tab)

Had to move on. Account is dead.

I never knew Call of Duty 4 was a game you could play on a browser.

I wanna steal one of those comps....

I can't believe people are so stupid to buy computers powerful enough to run CoD 4 at 50 FPS ONLY for simple-ass GUI apps. Probably to expel people who try to install games on them.

Wrong some programs that are for programming, art, models etc on computers might have to be powerful.

The teachers might just play games while no ones looking. Rolleyes
