RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Staying home=Illegal.

I'm the kind of student that stays home, a lot. I usually fake being sick and have the day off. But last Tuesday I was actually sick. But it seems these frequent sick days have been taken notice by the (dick)head of discipline in my school at the wrong time, when I was actually sick.

He came into my english class yesterday and told me to come with him into his office. This teacher is the cocky guy who loves a fight, but barely loses his temper. I sat down and listened.

"I see that you have been away for quite a while, Damian."
"Yes, I've been pretty sick."

"Have you got an excuse to why you've been away for two Tuesdays in a row?"

"I had a bit of a flu, the cold weather gets me."

"Your saying you've had two flu's in two weeks?"

"No, I'm saying I was sick yesterday with a flu."

"So what's your reason for staying home last week?"

"I've already given a note for why I stayed home last week."

"Look, I don't want excuses. We know what's going on. All we're doing is worrying that your missing out on too much work. Staying home is illegal. Your truancy will hurt your learning process, do you understand?"

"Sure, I understand how important school is and will try to come much more frequently." (SARCASM ALERT)

"I see you coming today has opened your mind to be more intelligent. Coming more often will help you even more with intelligence like the rest of your classmates."

As you can see, my teachers are so full of shit they have become shit themselves.

Re: Staying home=Illegal.

If he bothers you again just tell him to stick some corn up his ass. There's nothing he can legally do to really hurt you.

Who am I? That is irrelevant.
What am I here for? That will become apparent.
You can call me Apathy!

Based on the " discussion" it sounds to me like this guy had already had something shoved up his ass that morning.

This much sounds plausable. In fact, it sounds more like he has had a rod up his ass all his life, and it is such a part of him if you pulled it out it would kill him.

You should try and find some alternative schooling, then invest in a cloning device so no more innocent children have to go through this.

Re: Staying home=Illegal.

I have a 3.9 GPA and I'm in the top 5% of my class, not to mention in all of my honors and AP classes I get either the highest or one of the highest grades -- and I normally stay home 40-45 days a year. Smile

I'm glad that you all agree that this guy (or whatever it is) is a complete fuckhead.

@Freak: You have completely proven how staying home doesn't effect the "learning process" at all. In fact it probably gives you more understanding on life.

Schools don't care about the learning process.

When you don't come to school, they lose money. That's what they care about.

Carla Franklin may be a whore. She may be a wonderful, kind, moral woman. Seeing as I don't know her personally, I cannot know for sure. However, I find her actions (suing Google, requesting the personal info of her critics, getting angry over random internet idiocy that she should ignore and be bigger than, trying to get this site in trouble because of a few users' commentary on the situation, etc.) pretty ridiculous and unwarranted. If she didn't want people to to be talking about/judging her, well 1. that's impossible, she's a human, and 2. she shouldn't have been a model or agreed to be on film. AND 3. she DEFINITELY shouldn't have sued Google and made all this fuss over a few random idiots whom she probably won't ever know expressing their opinion. Mmkay? MMKAY.

Re: Staying home=Illegal.

I was homeschooled and dealt with similar crap from random people. Usually, it was just "Why aren't you in school today?" and my mom would explain that I was homeschooled. One time, a store clerk responded "Well that's an excuse" (about being homeschooled).

And I think the whole law is bull shit. No one should be required by law to go somewhere 35 hours a week. It should be up to them to decide, not the law.

Re: Staying home=Illegal.

Linkidoo: I don't necessarily prove that point; I can learn without going to school often, but many others can't.

But it should be a personal choice to attend school, and if anyone argues, "What if this person fails during high school they'll ruin their lives," they obviously should understand that you always have options: one of them is to go back to school (not high school, but to college with a GED or equivalent). Besides, we should have a society that's more open to adult learning, anyways.

Not to mention we should have more schools that fit different styles of learning, but of course! That would require the US Government to focus on education and not bombing the Middle East.

It's very stupid, our Cold War mentality has not dissipated since the Cold War ended. Eventually, we're going to stop being a militaristic nation.
