RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

Bleach and Naruto Mangas

My friend reads these mangas and I decided that since I liked the animes (only seen about 10 episodes from each series) that I wanted to read the mangas... I have some questions. Has anyone read them? Are they any good? Are they better than the anime?

Sorry man I'm late(Had to step away from ipod touch for a sec).

Trust me you seem like a man who uses his mind and wouldn't be able to handle naruto or bleach. They are both shitty overhyped series with crappy writing, storyline and archtype characters. Friend of mine saw bleach for a bit and though it was a hentai or something.

They describe the respected animes to a T.

Try something like Ghost in the shell the original movie or the manga parasyte which is even better than naruto or bleach.

The anime are shit, the manga are typical shounen, but still pretty good.

Go read 'em at MangaFox or something.

I'll def check them out... I honestly didn't enjoy ghost in the shell when I watched on Adult Swim but I'll give the manga a try.

AWOL I probably will end up reading the mangas anyway at the harassment of my friend.

What about Full Metal Alchemist? I do enjoy the anime on Adult Swim... how is the manga?

Stand alone is an alternate cleaner more politically correct version of the original movie but eh.

Full metal alchemist is the best shonen anime I've ever seen but that might have been because the writer was a woman and definitely worth a look.

Now that I'm not doing any work I can think of some as it seems you like action.
I highly recommend Japanese voice acting with English subtitles.

Black lagoon(lets see if your idealism can stand up to that but its got lots of action and I recommend the anime).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Lagoon

Akira(manga is the best).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akira_%28film%29

Narutaru aka shadow star(Manga as the anime pussied out but its not for the faint of heart so don't let the happy cover fool you).

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Narutaru

Bokurano which was made by the same dude as Narutaru so same applies but I recommend the anime over the manga but this one ends happily at least and shows humanity as strong despite whatever hits them.

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Bokurano

Another one with fighting you could try is the fist of the north star ova.

Samurai champloo

Ah, ghost in shell. I remember getting into it last summer.

People say the problem with me is I have psychotic tendencies and care not about other human beings I don't like and or know. So?

The original movie is awesome and the stand alone series is alright although is has a bit of political correctness and overall to clean to me compared to the original.

RE: Bleach and Naruto Mangas

I watched a few episodes, it was OK I guess. Although I don't have to watch it to know it has dragged on too long. Death Note is an example of a good anime and a great manga. But I don't really watch or read manga so yeah...

RE: Bleach and Naruto Mangas

Samurai Champloo is something I endorse. Short series, well put together, it was fucking cool. Also, check out FLCL. It's like 6 episodes, but you can watch the show 10 times and get something slightly different every time. FLCL and Samurai Champloo are kind of sort of similar in their styles...

Naruto and bleach are way to long and they're pretty stereotypically "Good guy beats bad guys" blah blah, "good guy has hard time" blah blah, "in the end good prevails." They both have some semi-interesting back stories and fighting scenes, but eh. Like, the ranking system in naruto is pretty cool, but a lot of times they fuck up power levels and shit. Like, some noob will be able to beat some world class fucking fighter or whatever just because it's good vs. bad. Also, the Anime's both have literally dozens, if not hundreds of fillers. I fucking hate fillers. The mangas skip fillers, but the shows have a shit load of 'em.

Monster was O.k, but isn't really satisfying at the end.

From what I've heard and seen, Full Metal Alchemist ain't half bad.

That's all I got for now I guess.
