RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017
The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.
If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.
To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.
Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.
FightforRight Wrote:"Science is the truth", is what he's referring to, I think. Science is an abstract idea that is often accorded near-religious significance in the minds of some, ignoring the real nitty-gritty of the scientific method and the scientific process. While I respect people who take the position that no sort of higher power exists because insufficient evidence exists for their existence, but keep an open mind and do not take the position that there is no way that any sort of higher beings could exist. Certainty is the enemy of all reasoned inquiry, because once you start to take certain things for granted, you risk having those certainties ripped out from underneath you and leaving you to fall.
Hardcore anti-theism is as much a danger as fundamentalist, radical theism. Both take the position that "everyone should think like me". Except it's "All religions are stupid, everyone should reject them, like me" versus "My religion is the only true religion. Everyone should believe as I believe." Both ways of thinking lead to closed-mindedness and a lack of tolerance and acceptance.
Honestly, whether a god exists or not doesn't matter to me. The important thing is whether people think a god exists. I think religious belief will be around for a long time, so it's better, as with any ideology, to discourage the radical, violent aspects and encourage the better parts.
This.
He treated it as a religion when he decided that everything else was automatically false, and that everyone who doesn't believe what he believes is stupid. That's a simplified version of what hardcore Christians, Muslims, and most other religious people believe. lol
Keep in mind that while the existence of a higher power cannot be proven, it also cannot be disproven. Even a belief in no higher power is blind faith, because we don't know the answer, and I doubt we ever will.
I was be trollin' (to an extent) ya niggers. I'm against Religion for the doctrines and 'values' it teaches; not because it can't be proven. But even then, don't subscribe to it. Like Fox said, be an Agnostic! I know I am. (Agnostic Antitheist)

TRIGGER WARNING: THIS TRIGGER WARNING CONTAINS TRIGGER WARNINGS!
Dear Tumblrites:Despite your wrongly self-diagnosedPTSD, no line ofscientific evidencesuggests people can be triggered over theinternet. Triggering works through thesenses(i.e. smell, taste, touch, vision, hearing.) but it goes throughreal time; if you're not experiencing it in real life as it'sACTUALLY HAPPENINGin yourACTUALlife, youCANNOTbe triggered. The only exception to this is if you have aseizure, but then again, that's triggered byepilepsy(i.e. rapidly-changing flashing lights)NOT PTSD. Remembering a bad incident is NOT the same thing as having aflashback. When you remember, youthink; when youflashback, youfeel.

I'd say I'm an agnostic with atheist tendencies. Staying in the "who knows, so why pick a side" area while every now and then dipping into atheism (like when forced to go to church, lolz).

I can get down with that. I have my own religion. I call it Omegatarianism... I use the term "religion" loosely, as we're not even remotely organized and there's only one of us.
FightforRight Wrote:Hardcore anti-theism is as much a danger as fundamentalist, radical theism.
No it isn't, and socipath doesn't seem like a hardcore anti-theist to me at all. If everybody started taking the flying spagetti monster seriously and skeptics started to question it heavily I don't think you would call them "hardcore anti-theists".
If people started taking Harry Potter seriously, wouldn't you oppose the rising superstition? Or would you not question it just for the sake of being politically correct and showing "respect"?
My point is, religion is as ridiculous as Harry Potter and people who take Harry Potter seriously would be ridiculed, people who take religion seriously should also be ridiculed.
"Atheists" aren't some underground group plotting against religion. They're pretty unorganised compared to religion. And while scientists have in the past been close minded to new ideas, religion is not a new idea, and religion has no evidence to back it up. Scientists are the ones that come up with ideas like parallel universes and an infinite universe, and the many worlds interpretation. It's stuff like this that can make "god" in some way possible.

Yes, I quoted myself.
I'm going to correct myself here. I don't really hate ALL RELIGIONS. I just hate the white light mainstream religions of today (Christianity, Islam, Mormonism, Judaism, etc.). Basically I just don't like religions with destructive doctorines which for some reason seem to be the popular ones. I don't have a problem with spirituality in general. Any religion that preaches submission, a sheeple mentality, turning our best attributes and adventures in life into sins, that we are all evil beings that must be saved, is hypocritical,or violence is perfectly ok (the bible says this everywhere despite the ten commandments and those Christians that claim their religion is about peace. After all, God destroyed Sodom and Gamorrah and he flooded the entire human race, he is a violent mofo) I don't like. I also think nothing can be further from spirituallity than these religions. If spirituallity is real, it is best found on our own, not forced upon us.
