RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017
The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.
If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.
To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

Cahsee Math coming up again, feeling really low about it
So..I'm planning to take the Cahsee(California Exit Exam for those who don't know) Math section "again". Which seems to be the 7th time in almost 2 years since I took the last one.
It would be nice to pass this, but what's the problem you ask? Well, hence that I stated "7th time" after all my high school years.
I already know I'm not going to pass this. Every time I take it, I fail. I always miss by a few points from the required score. It had got to the point where I just feel careless about it now. I don't want to anyone to teach me the sections that I'm having trouble with, because it's just too much now. I'm tired of trying to understand it, so I really don't want to bother.
I did "some" studying on half of the lessons in a book these past months, but not really that much that'll probably help me.
Now I feel like a jackass lying to my Dad when he asked if I was fully ready. All because I didn't want him to continue see me sitting around the house through my lifetime doing nothing. I feel like if I continue to fail, my life will go nowhere.
Is there any "Guarantee" method to passing this? I just want to get my diploma, but nothing doesn't seem to work out.

What the fuck is the point of studying if you don't cover the material you don't understand?

What the fuck is the point of studying if you don't cover the material you don't understand?
Because it increases my chances of passing?
What the fuck is the point of trying to keep learning the same shit I've learning for years when I'll never understand it?
Re: Cahsee Math coming up again, feeling really low about it
It's better if you try to learn and understand what you don't understand. ಠ_ಠ And it's actually more important than studying what you already understand unless what you don't understand is too difficult to understand and it's still possible to pass while not understanding it...argh
You don't need school to understand things. Look them up on the internet or whatever.

Studying is only effective when you cover all of the material and not just what's easiest for you to understand. Otherwise you're not learning anything, you're just reviewing what you already know. What you're doing is the same as trying to find a new route to work by taking the same road every day. It's retarded.
Maybe if you studied the subjects you didn't understand, as opposed to just reviewing the material you did, you would actually pass the exam.

It's not the exam, it's you.

It's still stupid that this one tiny thing is the only thing preventing him from having that stupid diploma that everyone else considers to be the most important piece of paper in the world.
Can't you get a GED instead? Or I dunno, get into some kind of college that doesn't care about HS diplomas? There's gotta be some way around that.

I feel for you man. Here in Florida we have this thing called FCAT (Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test) but they are scrapping it in favor of end of course exams. Luckily I've already passed FCAT so I don't have to deal with that shit senior year but everyone else will. If you don't pass the exam you don't get the credit for the class.

They are starting to do that same shit here in PA... I missed it by about 3 or 4 grades. The freshmen of next year are gonna have to do it though.
Anyway, just try to study and pass it; assuming your still in that situation. Not much you can do besides get your ass to work and pass it. Sometimes there's no way around it, and it looks like this is one of those times. Good fucking luck, and I hope you can get over this retarded barrier.
