RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

The Problem with our "Cause"

I think that it's fairly obvious that Youth Rights is only a small part of what we really want: governmental reform. We as a people want reform because we aren't ignorant and thereby find our government to serve as our rule.

However, we are a minority in this situation. The ignorant are louder than us with their approval of their politicians. As an American, I have to ask, "What the fuck happened to equality?" It's like at this point we really don't have a voice until we decide to voice the idea on the louder teams. Fuckin' ridiculous.

Remember the American Revolution? Remember how badass we were back in the American Revolution? Remember when we were pissed off at our British rulers and said, "Fuck off, you tosspots," and got violent when they tried to rule us for no good reason? Remember those times?

Oh dear, that was our forefathers! The guys that fucking made the country! NOT US. I get so irritated when people say that "We" kicked their asses back in the late 1700s. Unless you're some kind of infinite youth person or some shit, you need to shut the fuck up homie. You weren't on the battlefield with those guys.

So, here's something semi-philosophical I had rummaging through my head. Why don't we, the minority that actually knows what the fuck's what, take up arms and violently rape our corrupted government for being a corrupted government, like the dudes and dudettes in the American Revolution did?

Here's an answer why:

First reason that we can't just take up arms and blow some moron brains out is the obvious, "Oh look, terrorists!" thing that the government will pull. They'll look at anyone who opposes them with arms and a cause and call them, even their own citizens who want their liberties, terrorists.

See, the problem is that we don't have rights. What we have is what the government says we can and can't do with conditions. Those are not rights. Those are overweight dudes controlling our daily lives. Pretty soon, they'll be manipulating our daily lives without our knowledge.

So our dilemma is thus: we want proper rights and the most Occam's Razor- that is, the simplest solution- way to get them is to do what the founders of our country did: spill the blood and intestines of morons on the ground to say, "This is unacceptable. Get the fuck out before we have to T-bag the rest of ya." At the same time, doing this would make us criminals in the eyes of the people we're trying to liberate- because they're too goddamned stupid to realize that they're being oppressed.

And slower methods, i.e. running around and protesting with flags and stuff; it ultimately doesn't work, because no one listens. They look, they laugh, but they ultimately don't care, do you see? All of these petitions don't matter, because our voice doesn't matter.

So ultimately, our voice doesn't matter or we're terrorists. Which is it?

It is neither, because there's more factors that you're blinded to due to your pessimistic view that you're holding on to so passionately. It isn't that simple, fortunately in this case.

Re: The Problem with our "Cause"

I never really expected us to change school in the first place. I'm pretty sure a good portion of us don't have the balls to even stage a walk-out, as we fear the potential drugs that we'll be forced on or the prisons we'll be sent to. And those who aren't afraid form too little a group to actually have any effect.
