RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017
The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.
If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.
To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.
-SoulRiser

School Starts Tomorrow
Well, it looks like the school year is rearing its ugly head again. Tomorrow it will be back to getting up a 5:40 am, back to being board for 6 hours a day, back to homework, etc. The only difference is that I will be a sophomore rather than a freshman, and my classes this year don't seem as bad as the ones I took last year. How are you all taking the idea of going back to school?

31st... I think. Not sure. I was told it would start on the 30th (and have posted this before), but it can't because that's a Sunday.

First year of college begins tomorrow. I'm a little scared, but the idea of making a clean break with this town and all the bad memories it has really makes up for the fear.

College isn't that bad. You will get a lot of projects but not many stupid daily worksheets. You also have more freedom to learn what you want when you want.

Re: School Starts Tomorrow
My first day was pretty ok. My classes seem fine (easier than last year) but my school is way to overcrowded. It's still to early to tell how the teachers are going to be anyways.

Re: School Starts Tomorrow
Mine starts in three days. Haven't bought any supplies.
Classes are going to be tougher than heck and golf practice starts the first day...ugh...
I love golf, but why can't we have a break while we adjust to our summer schedules being thrown completely out of whack? :waah:

However, I find her actions (suing Google, requesting the personal info of her critics, getting angry over random internet idiocy that she should ignore and be bigger than, trying to get this site in trouble because of a few users' commentary on the situation, etc.) pretty ridiculous and unwarranted. If she didn't want people to to be talking about/judging her, well 1. that's impossible, she's a human, and 2. she shouldn't have been a model or agreed to be on film. AND 3. she DEFINITELY shouldn't have sued Google and made all this fuss over a few random idiots whom she probably won't ever know expressing their opinion. Mmkay? MMKAY.

Re: School Starts Tomorrow
My geometry teacher is a Stanford graduate who worked as a programmer in Silicon Valley for 20 years. He barely gives any homework, and when he does, he gives us a long time to finish it. He gave my class - a class full of people who took advanced algebra 2 last year - a review packet full of some of the easiest algebra problems I've ever solved. Not only that, he only made us do half of it (and it's only 60 problems long). And he gave us until this Friday to do it.

Re: School Starts Tomorrow
My first teacher is psychotic.
My second teacher is dull but okay I guess.
My third teacher is pretty cool, but it's an AP class with a buttload of homework.
My fourth teacher is ok, haven't seen enough of him yet tho.
My fifth teacher...only saw her for a minute, it was PE so she said okay show me your schedules and then left us to be bored on the bleachers...
My sixth teacher is just...weird. in a not so good way.... he's friends with all the 'cool' kids, half of the class know him already but I've never met him.
golf practice was exhausting, now I realize why I had doubts about playing it this year....
Sigh. It's going to be...blagh, this year.

Re: School Starts Tomorrow
I go to a catholic high school, thought i'd let ya know
my first teacher is a seemingly religious fanatic
my second teacher is full of win
my third teacher can barely speak english, but she believes us if we say we forgot our homework
my fourth teacher is cool
my fifth teacher is meh, she tries, and fails at making english fun
my sixth teacher is also pure win, hilarious, and starts debates about politics in class
my seventh teacher is kinda strict, but she cares a lot

Re: School Starts Tomorrow
My first teacher is probably the nicest Spanish teacher in the world language area.
My second teacher is nice as well.
My third teacher is awesome. He's been a gym teacher for 20 years and has about 20 years of rock climbing experience, which is great considering I'm in a gym class focusing on wall-climbing.
My fourth teacher is awesome. He loves video games. Plus he has a bunch of great teaching philosophies which I'll post later.
My fifth teacher is also awesome. He's a Stanford graduate who worked as a programmer in Silicon Valley for 20 years. Plus he barely gives any homework.
My sixth teacher is nice, but has no idea what she's doing. Luckily, she's my graphic arts teacher, and all we use is Photoshop, which I'm already skilled in.
My seventh teacher is also nice as well.
