RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Gym uniform

Apparently this year we have to wear a gym uniform. Last year you could just wear shorts and a t-shirt. And the teachers even right your name on the name patch. It's like your in a fucking prison yard or something all walking around in grey with names on your shirt. Instead of numbers. This Probley has something to do with girls sneaking off to smoke pot and the gym teachers being more able to see if your participating and call role. Since there not smart enough to call roll usually without some amount of confusion. But Im still pissed.

Had to move on. Account is dead.

It was like that in 7th and 8th grade for me.
In high school, you just wear whatever non-street clothes you want.

Re: Gym uniform

I've never had to wear a gym uniform all through K-almost 12. However, last year, the students in the year behind me in high school (I was a sophomore, they were freshman) had to wear uniforms: white t-shirts with the school logo and blue shorts. They're making both freshman and sophomores wear them now - gym only goes for 2 1/2 semesters with the freshman having the 1/2 & switching off to health halfway through the year. Anyway. Uniforms are not exactly my definition of fun. None They do remind me of prison-wear. So. Thumbs-down to that.

Re: Gym uniform

We have had to wear a gym uniform since year 7 (Age 11/12).

Our gym uniform sucks.

Re: Gym uniform

We have rules about gym uniform. Variations are allowed, but only slight ones. White T-shirt, Navy shorets or tracksuit bottoms. No badges or logos, no sleevless tops.

-Ben Franklin

"when I was a kid I used to pray for a bicycle. then I realized that god doesn't work that way. so I stole one and prayed for forgiveness."

Re: Gym uniform

good thing i dropped PE. However at my old school, the sport uniform costs over $100, so please, some sympathy to morons who send their kids to private schools. Damn, they were always so anal about the uniform.

Re: Gym uniform

Meh, as far as the gym uniform goes, I don't really care about it. Maybe it's just because I've been wearing it for a while, but I find that it does have pluses. Quite a few pluses actually - I almost rather like the thing (not how it looks, but, just the idea of a gym uniform).

First of all, it keeps me from having to worry about what the other girls are wearing, and how I look. I mean, I may sound shallow for saying that, but, really, it sort of sucks when all of the other girls are wearing like, super sexy things, and, I'm just wearing my comfortable old jeans. I feel like the odd girl out, you know? Plus gym is uncomfortable and awkward anyway - at least when we're all wearing the same thing, you don't have that added weight of feeling like a dork for wearing a different kind of shirt or something.

Also, it turns out to make really comfortable pajamas after you're done using it. My favorite PJ outfit is made up of my old gym shorts, and some random shirt. But, mostly, the shorts are soft, and nice. Smile

Although, you're right. It does seem prison yard-ish - especially with the oh so nice chainlink fence with razer wire on top in the background. Just perfect. It also makes it rather impossible to get down to the nurses office without getting a bunch of strange looks; and if you god forbid get kicked out of gym while in uniform, and have to go to the deans office, god help you get back into your normal attire by the end of the day.

Aside from those things, I don't really mind it. It keeps people from smelling for the rest of the day; so what does it matter what it looks like? Or if we all look the same? One hour of the day, and it really actually just seems to make things easier on this end. *Shrug*

Re: Gym uniform

Ah alrighty. I feel ya. It's rediculous that that's what you have to do to get a PE grade. I mean, really, any one can pretty much participate in gym no matter what they're wearing - except for perhaps a suit of armor - charging people for their gym grade is rediculous. Do they give you any credit at all if you forget it but still participate?

We have that policy - you can get some credit even if you don't dress. Not enough to pass, but, it helps. Anyhow, right. It is sort of robbery though. Where else are you supposed to get it? And you can bet your bottom dollar that they got those uniforms in bulk, and they're charging way more than the original cost of ordering them. It's sort of like forced donating to the school... without a tax exemption opportunity.

But... anyway.

Anyway, sorry about the health thing... but I think you'll end up happier in the end. I'm not one to speak for you or anything... but health class is a load of crap. With teachers who, in my experiance, are rediculous, government loving, rule following, student hating, common sense lacking, bottom feeders. You would have been pretty enraged in that class, I bet. At least gym isn't always a load of crap all the time. There are useful bits. Health however... it's FUBAR.
