RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Today I learned....

Now that school has started I feel as though its imperative that we begin our learning journey. And as such, I dedicate this topic to announcing what we have learned today. Shall I start us off?

I learned today that looking both ways before you cross the street doesn't necessarily stop you from getting hit by cars driving over the sidewalk

Some cupid kills with arrows, some with traps.

I learned that our "disciplinarian" has the eyes of a hawk and can notice a partially untucked shirt from 300 feet away.

I also learned that the 13 colonies and Britain are just like us and the school supporters.

I learned that the Westboro Baptist Church sees nothing wrong with putting a "Jesus Hates Fags!" sandwich board on a 5 year old kid and marching him out in front of a hostile crowd.

I learned that i CANNOT COMPLETE ANY HOMEWORK BETWEEN THE HOURS OF 4-9. Which is...right when I get out of school to the time when it's such a drag to do homework I just slack and take five hours to do it.

Carla Franklin may be a whore. She may be a wonderful, kind, moral woman. Seeing as I don't know her personally, I cannot know for sure. However, I find her actions (suing Google, requesting the personal info of her critics, getting angry over random internet idiocy that she should ignore and be bigger than, trying to get this site in trouble because of a few users' commentary on the situation, etc.) pretty ridiculous and unwarranted. If she didn't want people to to be talking about/judging her, well 1. that's impossible, she's a human, and 2. she shouldn't have been a model or agreed to be on film. AND 3. she DEFINITELY shouldn't have sued Google and made all this fuss over a few random idiots whom she probably won't ever know expressing their opinion. Mmkay? MMKAY.

That internet censorship sucks more than anything else on the internet. It wouldn't be such a big deal, but my PSP isn't working, so I'm restricted to this cyberschool computer (which doesn't censor SS, despite censoring Google)

I learned that picking an Ikea cabinet lock is damn hard. It's got double sided pins. Three on the bottom two on the top (Maybe three) And I think there are security pins in there. At least I bought a nice cabinet.

Hidden stuff:
TRIGGER WARNING: THIS TRIGGER WARNING CONTAINS TRIGGER WARNINGS!

Dear Tumblrites: Despite your wrongly self-diagnosed PTSD, no line of scientific evidence suggests people can be triggered over the internet. Triggering works through the senses (i.e. smell, taste, touch, vision, hearing.) but it goes through real time; if you're not experiencing it in real life as it's ACTUALLY HAPPENING in your ACTUAL life, you CANNOT be triggered. The only exception to this is if you have a seizure, but then again, that's triggered by epilepsy (i.e. rapidly-changing flashing lights) NOT PTSD. Remembering a bad incident is NOT the same thing as having a flashback. When you remember, you think; when you flashback, you feel.

It was a joke, and your 'invision' sucked. Did a doctor leave a hammer in your kidney when you were little?
