RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

teacher trouble (please reply i need help)

ok well here goes. today i was given my school timetable for the rest of the year and on it i have realised i have a big problem.
for chemistry this year i have a teacher who hates my guts for no reason. i don't know when it started or why she chose me the only thing i can think of is when my friend interupted a detention she was running once and she thought it was me and yelled at me!! even though i was the only one who didnt do anything!! since then she has yelled at me pulled me to one side to 'talk' to me. given me a detention, reported me to my head of year, threatened to give me an internal exclusion, threatened to call home, almost gave me a referal and has given me a bad reputation throughout her department (science- what makes it worse is that she is the head of science in our school). also im not and have never actually been in her class ever!!!! now tomorow i have double chemistry(!) with her each lesson 50mins without a break. how the hell will i cope.
i dont know what to do i will have to see how things go but do u have any pointers on how to cope, not get in loads of trouble, and in general how to survive.

At my school you can put in a request (if given permission from parents) to change your set, might be worth a shot to ask your form tutor if you could do that at your school.

I used to be "The circus" as I forgot my login, but then hey-ho I remembered it.

Re: teacher trouble (please reply i need help)

i would try but at the moment i chose triple science so the only way to change would be to cancel all 3 (biology, physics, chemistry). also at my school they always just assume its the pupils fault, the teachers are never to blame. i must have obviously done something to her.

at the moment my only hope is that they made another mistake on my timetable. i am really hoping they have.

My timetable this year isn't all that bad which makes a nice change. However last year I had a teacher with a similar attitude like you described. I actually made a topic about something 'Mr.X' said/did viewtopic.php?f=19&t=16014 I kept quiet though I wish I did say something though if you keep quiet nothing is resolved so just talk to your form tutor or a teacher you can 'trust'.

Explain it to your parents, see if they can get anything done, and if not, act like a asshole and get kicked out.
