RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017
The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.
If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.
To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

I'm back
You may not all remember me but I used to post around here pretty often a while ago. I got carried away with shit that was happening in my life, and basically left everything I was doing.
In this time, which was only about 3 or 4 months, I...
1) Moved to Alabama from Maryland
2) Was forced to go back to school after a year of discovering my interests through "Unschooling"
3) Almost got into a huge car accident (Car slipped and circled across the entire crowded highway)
Yup... I'm tired. I don't know why this stuff has been happening to me but... shit happens. I don't know what I'm doing now. I'm at a state in my life that I feel like just giving up at what I believe in because it just never works out.
Anyways, school sucks. I found that when I unschooled my attitude was a lot greater and I had a lot more confidence and excitement. Now school has pushed me to a point of depression.
Help me.

Come children and students abide by our rules
we'll send in the troops to recruit at your schools
and we'll tell you it's noble, we'll tell you it's cool
and you'll hear every word that we're saying
and there's room in the jails if the classrooms are full
for the times, they are not a-changin'
come mothers and fathers and friends of the slain
while we exploit your loses to fund our campaigns
we brought you the war, now there's no one to blame
you best hope the new leader ain't crazy
you can vote how you want but the outcomes the same
for the times, they are not a-changin'

Re: I'm back
I remember you!
Why did you have to go back to school? Couldn't whoever forced you see that you were clearly much better off without it?
I know school is hard, but try to put yourself in a positive state of mind.

<Darthmat> I love the taste of meat in my mouth. Cory, I don't know how you live without it.

Welcome back
Damn man... that must feel shitty... going back to school after a year. That must be impossible. Can't you show your parents you were better off unschooled?
