RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Why I dislike been computer literate.

When ever a fucking family member has a slight problem with their computer it is round to my house half the time it is so bloody obvious. Not that I wouldn't help them I will always help out - it is what family are for it is just 9 out of 10 times common sense and it can take a long time to fix if it is hardware related.

A while ago my step sister broke her computer well her RAM was fucked I bought a replacement stick for him I explained to him that "I bought it on-line £15 which is cheap for what it is" I would not of taken the money if he tried to give it to me but I would of expected him to say something like "Here is £20 to cover the costs keep the rest". But no.

I suspect there is grammatical mistakes lights have gone out on my keyboard. >.< Yet another fucking job.

I used to be "The circus" as I forgot my login, but then hey-ho I remembered it.

This.

I'll clean my room and keep shit tidy for meals and a roof over my head, but if you want me to fix your computer, it'll cost ya extra. Especially since i'm called upon so damn often to do that type of stuff, I even bought a shirt that says "No, I will not fix your computer"

Do want.

I'm not the best with computer problems, but I'm always fixing peoples technical problems. I learn a lot from my dad, and the fact that my old computer sucked meant I had to figure things out for myself constantly.

Just yesterday at school, the internet wouldn't work, so I looked at the chords and the internet cable was unplugged. I got yelled at for touching the chord. Rolleyes

Re: Why I dislike been computer literate.

I know what that feels like, really annoying.

Also sometimes there's something wrong with a website, and people always call me over to help them. They think it's a computer problem when in fact it's the website itself so when I say I don't know what to do they get all mad and call me a liar.

Re: Why I dislike been computer literate.

God, I hate the people that are completely computer illiterate. Maybe I should get a shirt of my own saying that I won't fix your computer, since I am on of the more literate ones in the school and in the family. My family no longer asks me for help, but it's because I got all bitchy about it.

Give a man a fire and he's warm for a day. Set a man on fire and he's warm for the rest of his life.

Carla Franklin has never denied that on the afternoon of the third of August 2006 she raped and killed sixteen children celebrating their friend's fifth birthday and forced their parents to share a dinner of their remains.

I guess you guys missed my point.

Don't just fix the problem; show them what you did to fix it. Show them other ways of fixing it. Help them help themselves.

My mom never remembers anyway. I could tell her, but it wouldn't do much. It's not her fault, she barely uses the computer anyway.

To be fair, for parents these newfangled personal wathcamacallit contraptions have only existed for about 10 years, wearas for us computers have always been around, and we spent alot of time on them, so we are fairly confident in what we are doing. But I am nothing if not incredibly mean, so...
