RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017
The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.
If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.
To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

Sex Education
Besides being a beautiful title to a porno and probably a class that has wasted a year of your life; it appears at times that sex ed is an important and moral way of dealing with an increasing rise in teenage pregnancy.
Today I had the privilege of reading this article: http://www.empowher.com/news/herarticle/...l?page=0,1
If you don't want to read it; basically it tells us of the enchanting Robeson High School in Chicago where a unique situation has occurred. Out of the 800 girls currently enrolled, 115 are pregnant. That's right. One out of every eight girls in that school is pregnant. They will actually have enough children between them to fill up a passenger airplane by senior prom.
Now it would be easy to point fingers... Pop culture, poor upbringing, good pick up lines.... The fact of the matter is: teenage pregnancy is a real issue and it is crucial to instill a value I learned being a lifelong New York Red Bulls fan....don't score and suck.
Jokes aside: how do you think we should educate and in turn prevent teenagers from becoming pregnant?

Personally I think people should be smart enough not to get pregnant, but since that obviously isn't the case, some sort os sex ed is needed.

Free sample Condoms.
"I heard a joke once. Man goes to doctor says "I'm terribly depressed". Doctor says "I know just what you should do. Poliacci the clown is in town, go see him, you'll be cheered right up." The man bursts into tears. "But Doctor, I am Poliacci." Funny joke. Roll on snare drum. Everyone laugh."

Re: Sex Education
Make schools condom/contraceptive pill booths.
Also, teach them how to prevent pregnancy and still have sex. Because let's face it, they're going to have sex. You might as well teach them to not get knocked up.

Re: Sex Education
I think it's just down to the individual. Yes, tel them about sex and contraception - then leave it to them. If they know where to get it and choose not to, thats their problem.

Re: Sex Education
Make Sex Ed. an optional part of the curriculum. Kids learn everything and more about sex and how to protect themselves without a class.

Re: Sex Education
Their lives aren't the problem, they are free to ruin them if they want. The problem is them ruining their children's lives.

Re: Sex Education
I have had this thought; its not original so your mind wont be blown don't worry.
Pretending that humans don't have this pesky thing called, "freedom"....wouldn't it make sense to force women ages 12-16 to take birth control. I mean, have it standardized.
Perhaps what I am really saying...(and I hope you don't think I am saying, lets grab all the tweens and shove vaginal rings between their legs.)...is that; should 12-16 year old girls be allowed to give birth? What good does it do for society? What good does it do for them? Does the right to pursue happiness mean the same to the child as it does to the 14 year old mother?
I feel like, if there were a way to standardize a national birth control for girls ages 12-16, in a non-invasive way... i.e. a birthcontrol shot/pill that has relatively mild side effects and more importantly....no hazardous long term side effects: save a happy life.... Then it could be beneficial to consider this option.

Re: Sex Education
What's wrong with teen pregnancy? Teen pregnancy has always been common, it's not a problem of "these days".

Re: Sex Education
I disagree with forcing teenage girls to take contraceptive pills / injections. Thats just wrong, to me. Plus, there is no way of forcing us to take contraception - we have the right to our own body, and to disagree to take it.

I don't give a damn what you do with the fetus, abort it for all I care. But if you can't take care of that child on your own wages, abort the damn fucking thing or don't have it in the first place.

Exactly. We don't need to go out of our way to teach kids these things, especially not with the Internet as prolific as it is. "The talk" is just stupid, a remnant of a bygone era. Give a kid with an erection five minutes on Wikipedia. That's all the sex ed he'll need for life, trust me. Teenagers know what condoms are and how to use them. Hell, they already have a list of fetishes and proclivities by age nine nowadays.
Back from hiatus.
