RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

|55555|'s guide to trolling

A successful troll is one who manages to derail threads and in the most successful cases whole forums in to flamewars and is able to turn members against eachother.

Trolling, real trolling, is a subtle art. The desired result will probably not be achieved by posting "GOD IS A FAGGOT" on a christian site. Rather, if you really want to stir up trouble make it out that you are a christian, but hold especially extreme beliefs i.e. god intended to make negros an unsuperior race. Probably not the best example but I'm tired as hell right now so here we are.

Back this opinion up with an articulate argument too, if you look hard enough you'll be able to find studies showing the average black person does in fact have a lower iq than that of a the average white person, and Im sure if you search hard enough on google you'll find more golden tidbits to just copy paste.

Don't troll the first thing when you join a site, it'll be obvious. Rather, provide a little at first and then start to hit them with it. If you can become friends with some of the moderators, you should be ace and wont get banned.

That guy is one of the most successful trolls I've seen. He had that whole forum in an uproar with his racism trolls, because he was able to present them in an intelligent way. Go through some of his posts for examples of successful trolls.

In the best trolls, it is not known that you are trolling. You may get accused of being one of those nasty creatures lurking under bridges, but the general community consensus needs to be that you're serious. Once community consensus is that you're a troll, it's very difficult to earn serious poster status back and future trolls will be difficult to pull off with that account. I can't troll you guys very effectively because I have long been pointed out as a troll.

On a forum, there are several main types of posters. It helps to be able to identify them.

Internet tough guy: Easy to troll. Tries to make himself out to be a badass even though he's just a stupid twelve year old kid. Take a stab at his ego and you'll have him throwing around generic insults like middle school kids. Bonus points if you can get him banned.

Other trolls: Your comrads in destroying a forum community.

Pseudo intellectuals: These people think they're smart by writing up long blocks of text babbling on about nothing. You can troll them by showing they're complete idiots.

Reformed troll: Somebody who used to be a troll but no longer trolls, at least not on that particular forum. Will often be the first to point out you are a troll and is your 2nd worst enemy next to mods/admin. If they call you a troll it's usually best to just ignore the comment, you wont be able to do yourself any favors by replying.

Smart peoples: These people will usually ignore your troll threads completely unless it's a very good troll and they provide a lot to the forum.

Moderators/Admins: Get on their good side so you don't get ban hammered.

Retards: These people are genuinely dumb and are easily trolled. They often get accused of being trolls themselves.

I'll add on to this tomorrow probably, too tired tonight. It is a work in progress.

Who am I? Who are YOU?

This place is just for practice trolling. Seriously, 5 was obvious, regardless of trying or not. Even on my bad days I can get into a community with relative ease and start trolling them.

Eddy, I fear to disagree with you on a subject which you're quite skilled at, but isn't that the definition of a troll?

Those health forums are so fun to troll! Since it's just a bunch of 40 year old mothers that have no idea what a troll is. I can make up any bizarre medical condition and they go "OMG REALLY GO SEE A DOCTOR OMG" Example: Guys I have been vomiting like kind of purple stuff. And it's kind of puffy.

And they believe it.

Had to move on. Account is dead.
