RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

I didn't do Anything Wrong

Okay, let me start off with saying I hate school to the point to where I point it out to my mom on a daily basis and I have a 27 paragraph rant on Facebook about it that simply astonished some people. I hate school, it's awful. It's not a place to learn, I've taught myself everything for the most part. Now, I do have some good teachers who do their job well every now and again, don't get me wrong. I've been begging my mom for online classes but she won't give them to me. It's not that we don't have the money or anything. We are perfectly more than capable of affording them. Thing being, I'm a gamer. I play WoW/Aion/WC3/etc, it's my passion and I'm good at it. I've been very close to being sponsored to play for money for WC3/WoW. This being said, she thinks that I'd sit at home and play video games all day as opposed to do doing my work. I'd be very happy and respectful to the online classes. There is no way I'd ditch my online classes for video games if she allowed me to have them. Now, down to the actual rant that this title is about.
My study hall teacher is a biznotch and I can't stand her. She's completely insane and borderline retarded. I cannot stand being around this woman 50 minutes a day but thanks to the law, I'm forced to. I have English third period and study hall fourth period. I was talking to my English teacher after class because he's the one who called me over to him to talk about a test. It was just a basic talk about how the word definitely is cliche and I use it too much. Otherwise, he said my writings were excellent. So we talked about it for about 3 out of the 5 minutes that I have to get to class. I am running across the campus because study hall is bookooz of buildings away. I'm sprinting into class and I land my butt in the chair as the bell finishes wringing. The rule being, you must be in your seat by the time the bell finishes ringing. My teacher writes me up and I tell her, "Hey, I was in my seat right when that bell finished ringing. There wasn't even a delay on it. I was definitely in my seat and that's a school policy. I know that you know that."
"No you weren't. Don't you dare try to lie to me. I saw you come in late. You weren't even in here while the bell was ringing," she replied.
"Are you insane? I was in my seat when the bell finished ringing and I sure as heck was in here when it began ringing. I have witnesses. As well as the fact that I can go get a pass from my English teacher who made me late in the first place to show you. That would be a legit excuse and that's been in the school policy as well."
"No, I'm not insane and teachers aren't supposed to make students late. I also don't care what your little friends say because they'll side with you no matter what. They're your friends."
"Too bad, school policy over rules what you think."
"Not if I don't permit you to go get the pass."
"Umm, okay. I'll just take it up with Mr.Franklin (my principal) tomorrow and see what he thinks."
"You do that."
So the next day I go to my principal after school and I try to talk to him about it but he completely neglects me and tells me, "Too bad so sad." I flipped him off behind his back...
So bottom line, I got detention hall for nothing. I didn't do ANYTHING wrong. I have had my troubles in the past and I do definitely need some type of therapy but I can't exactly bring the subject up with my parents and guess who has to pay for therapy? But I'm not insane, I just hate school. I want to get the hell out. I'm tired of being pushed down by stupid adults that think they own the world. I think some of my teachers got into the business just to try and make my life a living hell. I can't take it anymore. I'm getting stressed out from them and I need to get the heck out. I'm about to go off on my mom about getting me online classes and I don't want to do that. I've been begging her for over a year. Enough is enough.

That's school for you.

They punish you for the most insignificant things, and try to justify it with "them's the rules."

Why can't the learning environment be more open? So what if you're late a few seconds? A few minutes, even? So what if you don't show up at all? Life is all about choices. Let people make their own.

You should just ignore the detention. It may be a threat they're willing to go through with, but it requires your cooperation. Don't give it to them. Also, get that note from your English teacher.

I've got the note and I didn't go. I refused to. If they want to take this up with me I've got a note to back myself up.

You planning on staying around, or is one of those 'rant and leave's?

Re: I didn't do Anything Wrong

I've rode the Merry-Go-Round quite a few times with the School Board. I know exactly what to do, but you have to stick to it. What you should've done is walk out an get a note right then and there. But now what you need to do is get a note from your English teacher, and contact your local school board. Also, check to see if recording conversations secretly is legal in your state. If it is, record every conversation. Explain to them what happened. If that doesn't work, take 'em to court for pain and suffering. Then whatever other charges you can think of.

I don't know if I'll go as far as this but I intend on being an ignorant little shit and giving them hell if they attempt to punish me any further.

Yea, I guess that was just my way of letting out my frustrations of getting a detention I already served today, then getting treated like a piece of shit when I was being nothing but polite.

Good. Has anything further happened about this?

Re: I didn't do Anything Wrong

Their definition of "wrong" is not obeying. So for them, you actually did something "wrong", something they didn't want you to do. Which could be nothing.
