RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

In grammar, you are incorrect, it's either the thread name should be changed to 'Does anybody's school still do the pledge of alliance' or you change your post to 'I don't.'

Welcome to the forums, speak well young poster.

This post brought to you by, GRAMMAR NAZIS. (In this thread? It's more likely then you think.)

I stopped in 2003 when the Iraq war started. But after middle school none of the schools I went to did it anymore.

Re: does anybody say the pledge of allegence at school anymore

Our school says it every morning, with the announcements (except for Wednesdays, when it's made later in the day). I usually stand for it, silently, respectfully, with my hands behind my back, simply because it gives me a second or two to appreciate a few things, as follows,

The United States is a huge power in the world. The world is big. I am a part of the world. Why? God? Oh. It's over. Time to sit down.

Sometimes I can get really into it though, and work myself into a really philosophical mood. Overall, I like the pledge. I used to think it was a huge waste of time, but now, it's something like the small key to big thoughts. And, of course, it presents a large opportunity for noticable protest, if one wants to. Nothing wrong with that.

Yeah me too, I enjoy the pledge just because it reminds me of the olden days when our leaders actually believed in something better than 'what can I do to get myself re elected???'. What I don't enjoy are the stupid announcements.. lol.
We didn't have to say it last year, but now we do every morning.

Carla Franklin may be a whore. She may be a wonderful, kind, moral woman. Seeing as I don't know her personally, I cannot know for sure. However, I find her actions (suing Google, requesting the personal info of her critics, getting angry over random internet idiocy that she should ignore and be bigger than, trying to get this site in trouble because of a few users' commentary on the situation, etc.) pretty ridiculous and unwarranted. If she didn't want people to to be talking about/judging her, well 1. that's impossible, she's a human, and 2. she shouldn't have been a model or agreed to be on film. AND 3. she DEFINITELY shouldn't have sued Google and made all this fuss over a few random idiots whom she probably won't ever know expressing their opinion. Mmkay? MMKAY.

The pledge of allegence is like kneeling down and all
submitting to be Uncle Sam's bitches.
I did not ever say the pledge even in kindergarden
I was just too lazy.

I was once in the school council so we decided that instead of saying prayers to non-exsitant gods .We say the pledge and I think the pledge is good (better than prayers )

life is just blah blah blah. we hope for blah, and sometimes we find it. but mostly its blah. and waiting for blah. and hoping you were right about the blahs you made. and when you think you just got the whole blah damn thing figured out, and your surrounded by the ones you blah. death shows up and blah blah blah.

Re: does anybody say the pledge of allegence at school anymore

My school is forced to say the pledge everyday around 9:15. Only about 70% stand up anymore.

We actually had a decent discussion about it in my US History class about the reasons people don't stand up for the pledge.

I heard the whole, "if you don't stand, you might as well be a terrorist" thing and it pissed me off. I also found out that there were a whole seven people that didn't even know it, claiming to have not stood up because they didn't feel like it.

I get that people will stand up due to respect or some will not stand since they lack any respect for the country. But to not stand because you're too f***ing lazy? That's why I hate my school

Re: does anybody say the pledge of allegence at school anymore

Funny thing is, standing without respect is probably just as bad for me. I hum, and sing songs, and fidget and make popping sounds and make faces. Because I really can't be arsed to not-stand anymore. They made me sit out in the hall, and I had to bring in a signed note from my Mom, which by the way, I shouldn't have had to do.
