RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Falling

Does anyone else get the feeling that you're falling before you go to sleep? You're completely normal, but then all of a sudden you jolt?

What the hell causes this?

You waking up from a 1/2 dreamstate methinks.

Anything that ever happened or will... one condition, it has to be amazing.

Hmm... but I'm still awake mostly, and I feel like I'm actually falling.

Aha, Googlezors is epic.

I realized that when I first head the definition of 'syndrome'.

Re: Falling

I wonder if it's the same thing that causes things in your imagination exaggerate as you're in bed, and makes you feel like you're accelerating(not necessarily falling).

Problem, officer?

Re: Falling

I was thinking about making this thread.

Yes. That happens to me. But it is a relief when you find out that it is just that.

EDIT: For me, I'm not asleep, but not exactly awake, I may be "dreaming" about riding a bike (just an example ),then I fall off the bike.

Yeah, happens to me sometimes. I wonder why it happens.

Re: Falling

I heard somewhere allthough I may be wrong it's due to evolution, when we were apes and to stop us falling out we had dreams of a fallout sensation and you automatically grab onto something.

I used to be "The circus" as I forgot my login, but then hey-ho I remembered it.

Re: Falling

I have that. Also during mornings I partly fall back to sleep, then fell paralyzed and a feeling that I can't breath. Then I wake myself up.

It's freaky.

Re: Falling

I'm lucky, I've never locked in my sleep like that.

What's creepy is, when I posted it, it was about a month since it happened to me, and the night I posted this, I felt it again. I have to say, it's fun, to say the least, maybe it's because I wake up right away, and I don't have all the nasty side effects that many other people have.

Re: Falling

I have had many dreams of me falling off something; namely a bridge of some sort.

Re: Falling

My dreams must be weird then. Instead of falling and getting the falling feeling, in my dreams I jump really really really high and it feels like I'm falling, my stomach does that flippy thing. Then I wake up, and miss the feeling.

Re: Falling

I don't think I've ever had it because of a dream, except once, which scared the shit out of me.

When I was about six, I had a dream that someone cut open my throat and blood was gushing out. Then it switched to me falling so fast, I couldn't breathe. Another reminded of how fucked up I am. Laugh

Do you swim?
Lol, during vacation over miami, once when I went to sleep I felt like I was flying, or thrown from a catapult. It was insane.
Also, sometimes, when I get up everything goes black for a while and I get dizzy. It doesn't seem to be happening lately however.

Re: Falling

Okay, so I have recently been having ones relatged to Avatar (riding the turuk thingy and falling off) but I have a common one. The common one, I am doing a favorite thing of mine, chilling on my roof with some friends, when all of a sudden my house gets HUGE, like 15 stories. I'm fine it's whatever I like heights, but one of my friends falls, I save them and just as I pull them up, they push me off. I believe it has something to do with a well developed fear of backstabbing but one can never be sure.

Dance, when you're broken up.
Dance, if you've torn the bandage off.
Dance in the middle of the fighting.
Dance in your blood.
Dance, when you're perfectly free.
