RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

I thoroughly enjoyed it. If you didn't like, I'm afraid I'll have to kill you. Sorry about that.

Re: Sherlock Holmes (2009 film)

Just got back from seeing it, actually.

I'm a die-hard Sherlock Holmes fan; the stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the plays, the shows, the actors (Basil Rathbone, Jeremy Bret, Edward Hardwicke) - whoever & whatever. Happy to say that this movie gets my seal of approval.

It was bloody fantastic and nothing else need be said.

Huh, I'll have to check it out, after I go to Dave and Busters that is.

Anything that ever happened or will... one condition, it has to be amazing.

Re: Sherlock Holmes (2009 film)

It's odd....I went in not expecting it to be that good - you know how movies these days are all about action & usually unbelievable special effects....and, well, I like my classics when it comes to this sort of thing. Razz But they did a really, REALLY nice job. Made it to my 'top ten movies' list. & even if you're not familiar with anything about Sherlock Holmes, you would still enjoy this movie. I guarantee it, or my name isn't--er, well. Anyway.

Haven't seen it yet, but it looks promising. Can anyone outline the general plotline?

Re: Sherlock Holmes (2009 film)

This guy named Lord Blackwood is with the occult and has sacrificed some girls, but Holmes stops him and Blackwood is to be hanged months after. And so he is, but then supposedly rises from the grave. Irene Adler - AKA the woman- is working with somebody to follow Holmes, Watson has a fiancee and Holmes doesn't like it, them being like brothers & all. Anywho, Holmes is hired by this secret organization to figure out how in the hell Blackwood is alive again and to stop him from killing more people - but Blackwood has a plan....of....evilness. Lots of action, cool slow-motion moments of AWESOMENESS (I'm not being sarcastic), humor, suspense, a good mystery, and overall fantasticness ensues.

My advice would be to just go see it. Websites that I've looked at as well as myself give a wretched synopsis. -.-
The trailers do a pretty shitty job of it, as well.

Re: Sherlock Holmes (2009 film)

I just saw it as well...honestly it was everything James Bond should have been. Good movie, I recommend it not only for being witty and engaging. But really for just being fun; what else is a movie for?

I'm not sure if replaced is the right word....how long was the movie, 2 1/2 hours? They couldn't possible fit all of Holmes' quirks into that - at least not with an action-filled mystery to show the viewers.

But I was a tiny bit disappointed in the fact that they didn't at least show his needle at one point or other. >_>

YUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUS.

Also, I think Granada did a version of Rathbone's "The Secret Weapon," only it is called "The Dancing Men." Well...only no secret weapon, more about vexed love and all that. But the code is there! So, like, yeah.

Anyway.

Noomi Repace should be fantastic in the new film. Loved her in the Steig Larson films.

Hooray for the return of RDJ & Jude Law. Biggrin

Which reminds me...anyone else seen this?:

Watch on YouTube

If not, I suggest it. Moffat (c'mon Whovians, where are you on SS?) creates an excellent interpretation.

It's like Robert Downey Jr. and Robert Downey Jr. are the same freakin' person.

Kind of like Rocky and Rambo, I guess.
