RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017
The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.
If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.
To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

red through half of it and so far it seems like a theory on a world like the matrix existing or the possibility of creating a world similar to the matrix.

Pretty much this.

Matrix is about as much fail as the real world.
Musubi's idea I liked.
* Musubi
"I am the center of the world."
Musubi is a Reason based on solitude and isolation, where the Self is absolute. Every single person would live in his or her own independent world, completely sealed from any other living being. Using one's mind, a person could shape their world at will into their own personal paradise, living free from the unwelcome interference of others. The Reason Musubi closely resembles René Descartes' idea of solipsism, a philosophy of the solitary self which is based in individualism and solitude.
Only thing is people need others to grow(it sucks) and without other people and new ideas the world would die.
so without the sealed off from others it would be perfect.

Ehh... tl;dr all of it. Mostly the opening paragraph. I can't stand summaries before a long bunch of boring.
Why not send a message to our programmers? "We are conscious. Come, talk to us. We want to learn. What do you have to say to us?"
Something. Anything.

Re: Prepare to be mindfucked
Brilliant.
It could work, couldn't it?
Do you ever suffer from real life brain lag? An explanation, finally!
But no, really, it makes me curious as to what the future could possibly bring. I'd love to be the person overseeing such a computer - in charge of recording the interactions of the beings in the program and drawing conclusions from it. It would almost be like unlocking the secrets of the universe, wouldn't it? Although, can computer instructions reach the capability of a sentinent being? Are computer souls possible? And if so, what does that mean for humanity, and religion across the board?
I'd love to see it done just to see the implications of such, and then interact with a computer soul. From a psychology perspective, it would be quite amazing, wouldn't it? God, I'm almost inspired to become a mathematician so as to be the one involved in the computer-soul project, once it gets started.

Re: Prepare to be mindfucked
There's that philosophical adolescent stage where this kind of thing occurs to people and it blows their mind, and then they learn that it has been theorized before a hundred times over and beaten into the ground. Perspectivism. Brain in a vat. The Matrix.
It's kind of sad to see something that was at one point so mind boggling become mainstream and standard. I guess that's part of growing up.
Let's do the time warp again!
