RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017
The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.
If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.
To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

Kid suspended for bringing a two-inch Lego gun to school.
I shit you not. I found this article in a topic on my forum of the same name, and just had to post it here after reading it myself. Here I thought the stupidest thing I'd seen lately was a kid getting expelled for marijuana, but I guess I was wrong, wasn't I?
Also, feel free to check out some of the comments. Some are reasonable, but there's one or two people who I just want to punch through the computer screen, such as...
Quote:I say throw the book at the kid. That's how it starts, 2" gun then a machine gun and and WMD.

Re: Kid suspended for bringing a two-inch Lego gun to school.
I've seen a lot of this crap going around lately. It pisses me off so much. Everyone keeps saying it's a new trend but really, this kind of crazy shit has been going on as long as I can remember. I guess not to this extent but still. I got in trouble in kindergarten for bringing an alien lazer gun to school. It was 4 or 5 inches in length. 1 inch tall and it was green. I can't find a picture of it but it barely looked like a gun. And it made a "piew piew" noise. Fucking ridiculous. Oh and it was for show and tell.
Anyway, this is stupid.

Re: Kid suspended for bringing a two-inch Lego gun to school.
I'm pretty sure the comment about the WMD was sarcasm. Look at the poll results, at least 93% of people said they overreacted.

Yeah, I figured there was some sarcasm there after seeing the results (which I voted on, BTW). But with how people act in this modern age of ours, you never know for certain.

Kids suspended for drawing guns are worse.

Quite. I'm waiting for some kid to draw a gun in some symbolic way for a anti-war drawing, and then get in trouble for it.

I can understand the school/teacher taking away the Lego gun, But a suspension is just way over the top.

Why wouldn't they just tell him to put it in his pocket or something?

I don't know if this would count, but I remember a story a while back about some kids who used plastic army men to make a Iraq War memorial and had to cut off the little weapons. /facepalm

Yes, because you'll be able to cut off the enemy's gun when a war breaks out.
This is so retarded.
Problem, officer?

Such bullshit. The administrators at my school took away my friends key chain because it was a miniature toy gun. :sigh: I don't get it

I had my book taken away from me today because I was drawing in my book. I was just sketching faces...
School's new book policy fails.

Oh really? I just see that as stealing. Do you like getting your stuff stolen, in-your-face, you being left powerless?
It would be the FUCKING KID'S toy gun, why would he deserve to get it taken away?

Good [insert diety here]. I remember not being able to bring water guns to preschool. Like we're not gonna just go home and play with them anyway.

Re: Kid suspended for bringing a two-inch Lego gun to school.
It's basically okay for schools to break the law if they say it's to protect the learning environment.
