RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017
The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.
If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.
To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.
-SoulRiser

Re: Good GPU's
Woot! My specialty, any video card brand preferences? And what games do you plan on playing? Also I might need to know some other things, like what your PSU is, and how large of a case you are getting.

Re: Good GPU's
I actually prefer EVGA, not sure if it is just my experience, but I think Asus' customer support is either nonexistent or manned by drunk monkeys, because I still haven't gotten any help from them on a burnt out motherboard..
Anyways the video card HoS showed would be good, but we still need to know your preferences and such

Re: Good GPU's
Ive actually got most of the parts and assembled them , just wanted some recommendations on a video card.
My PSU is 500V.
My price range for a GPU is about £100-200.
And i wanted to play games like S.T.A.L.K.E.R , and crysis , fallout 3/New Vegas L4D . . and others.
My graphics card at the moment is a Ge force 7300 GT , which i don't think can play any of the aforementioned games.
And i was thinking of an ATI card , btw whats cards you guys have ?

Re: Good GPU's
500V? Hmm, yeah the current GPU that HoS said should fit the bill, unless you have other energy-intensive add-ons that is
Right now I have GTX 260, but i'm gonna upgrade soon, I prefer Nvidia over ATI, I personally think their cards are better quality

Re: Good GPU's
Usually a card with 1gb+ vram is good.
I can explain everything to you, but I'm a lazy shit. The ATI 5770 is good though. That's the one I have, plays everything on Max settings so far (Crysis, WoW, CoD, Oblivion etc)

Re: Good GPU's
You guys were aware of hwcompare before you knew it was mine? Well, I suppose it does kinda tend to show up in Google for just about every GPU comparison you can think of... so there's that.

There's nothing American about it. Made by me (South African), hosted in France.
But I guess it probably looks American. Whatever that means...

True, that. I haven't gotten around to listing prices from other countries and shops yet.
Quote:YOU made that site? I never realized that, thank so much for it though, it's been helpful
No problemo
I had help with the adding of all the data though, and some of the research.
