RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Feeling something that's not there...

I don't really know what to call it exactly, but it was more of a pre-dream instead of me actually dreaming. What happened was that, at some moment as I was laying down in bed last night, I suddenly felt as if someone was pressing down on top of me...not hard, but just laying on top of me, I could feel everything from this thing's legs and feet to its head pressing down on my back. My eyes opened instantly, I couldn't see anything above me, and I couldn't move much anyway. Nevertheless I was shitting myself until the sensation of this thing laying on my back ended after a few seconds.

Anyone else have something like this when they are near sleep, but still conscious of what is going on around them, and they feel something that is only a figment of their imagination? Or am I just weird?

It's pronounced A-N-E-U-R-Y-S-M.

Let go of all desire for the common good, and the good becomes common as grass.

Nothing like that, but I can't sleep on my bed anymore because it starts shaking. I'm 99.9 percent sure it's all in my head but I just sleep on my couch now. I asked this doctor online about it and he responded: "Open your mind and stay strong". That's when I stopped going on that website XD
I may be going insane, which is fine by me, as long as it doesn't scare the shit out of me.

Anyway, if you were half-asleep then this type of thing is normal. It's something about your body being asleep while you're brain is still conscious of what's going on around you.

Perhaps...
Now that I think about it, I remember I had a freaky hallucination when I was around 6, where I was laying on my side and all of a sudden I saw these two giant red eyes staring out from the dark hallway leading out of my room. It blinked a few times, emitted a creepy siren like sound, then disappeared. Always slept with my door closed after that. But nobody else here has ever had that? Or to the intensity of actually feeling something that doesn't exist?

Holy shit, that's much more scary than most things that have happened to me. Most were rather funny, like a talking race dog, said something in spanish, and flying dolls.
I also sometimes start all shaking in the middle of being asleep. Especially when I'm all scared about earthquakes, I had a phobia to them.

Wow... I want sleep paralysis now. It would scare me shitless, but it sounds fun.
