RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017
The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.
If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.
To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

Stupid dress code rule
So my stupid school (azle jr high) has a dress code policy stating that students cannot were jeans with holes in the knees. I dont know why no one has asked them without getting detention and im told because you could something caught in the holes and you could fall. the problem is there is nothing that could catch them, not a rail just nothing. I personally believe that they do it because they hate seeing a fourteen year olds knees. We can wear shorts and you can see our knees but not jeans with holes!?!?!?WTF!?!?

Re: Stupid dress code rule
Meh, it's not as bad as some, I wouldn't really be worried bout riding the new trend.
At least you are allowed to wear jeans to school.
Although, as per usual, the logic behind this is unsound.

Re: Stupid dress code rule
Same at my school. No ripped pants in any part of the pants. No riped shirts, no riped anything. If they catch you with ripped clothing, they say to duct tape it or to go home or go to in school suspension.
It's bullshit.
Although at my school the reason is:
You can't go to a job interview with ripped clothes and you can't go to work with ripped clothes so don't come to school with ripped clothes. Which is wrong.

It getting caught on something would be very rare, even if your jeans are loose.
This is just another example of school's zero tolerance BS.

At my school you have to wear a uniform. And black shoes, no beards or moustaches or sideburns below the ears or haircuts below a size 1, two tone hair, odd coloured hair, extreme hair, hats that "disrupt learning"... the list goes on.

Re: Stupid dress code rule
See, this is one of the things my school did right. When I was still there, I had this pair of jeans that had a hole in the upper back of the right leg. No one EVER brought it up except ONE person who suggested that I not wear it again, but didn't mention it again. I've also worn pants with holes in the knees and had next to no one bitch at me about it. Come to think of it, the dress code in general was pretty acceptable... For the most part.

What if there are naturally two colors in your hair?
It's infinitely better than our uniform policy, but before the whole uniform thing, we weren't allowed wrist bands, tank tops (It's too humid for sleeves over here dammit) Ripped clothes.
Oh yea, and they banned the colors red and black.

I'd need to get new shoes, jacket, maybe pants, socks, underwear, and probably a shirt if I was going to go there. All of 'em have some black on them.

Well, basically, it's black and red together. Gang colors and all that.

Re: Stupid dress code rule
Every color combination humanly possible are gang color's and every single color is a gang color some where. It's stupid to ban a whole color because of some gang. Better get rid of red binders, book bags, books, red food items, and notebook paper with red lines down the side of it while there at it.
My school took a more retarded approach of banning any logo or non pattern design over 2x2 inches. Yea, Im sure that stopped all those gangs with custom tailored shirts with full gang logo's.
Then school's bitch about "Being presentable and safe" Well guess what, Life doesn't have a dress code.
Had to move on. Account is dead.

Re: Stupid dress code rule
My school also has this kind of thing and only like 2% of the teachers are against it. I personally can't understand how anyone could support it.
So you wouldn't wear ratty clothes to a job interview? So what? A regular school day isn't a job interview. I wouldn't wear a Slayer T-Shirt to my grandmother's funeral either. Again so what?
And the obsession teachers have against sagging pants. Every generation in American history has come up with some kind of rebellious fashion trend and the older generation gets worked up about it. I honestly believe that people who get worked up about what other people are wearing are stupid. I just think, how could you possibly care?
I would even go so far as to say it's immoral to judge people by their clothes instead of their behavior.
If you want to be a different fish, you've got to jump out of the school.

Re: Stupid dress code rule
*shrugs* The dress code at my school is ridiculously stupid, but it's better than most Catholic schools in my area. At least we don't have to wear plaid skirst and ugly dress shirts. But we are still required to wear polos with the school logo, tuck our shirts in, and not have holes in our pants. And no jeans except on Fridays. Yes, we can wear any color of pants imaginable as long as they're not blue jeans from Monday-Thursday. I once had a hole in the knee of my purple pants, and I was sent to the office to call my uncle to drive all the way to school so he could drop off another pair of pants.
Overall, school uniforms are a stupid concept. It's bad enough schools want us to think alike. Now they want us to look alike?

How you dress can actually affect how you act.
They're trying to make you think alike by making you dress alike.

I personally agree with the "no saggy pants". I do not want to be walking up the steps staring at someones underwear.
*edit*
did not mean to bump this. Found it in a Google Search-did not see the date it was started until after I posted this.
