RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

So what's your take on Scientology? Don't just talk about how much it costs to get in or stuff like that. Say what you think about Scientology's ideology(ies). It'll be nice to get your views on this Smile . I haven't seen a topic based on Scientology (yet).

Re: Scientology

It was founded by a science fiction writer who once said "the way to make a million dollars is to start a religion." (source) Do we really need to discuss this any further?

I think Buenaventura Durruti is a pretty cool guy. eh kills fascists and doesnt afraid of ruins.

The thing that I hate Scientology the most for, is that they too are against psychiatry - making any antipsychiatry people associated with them by default, and ruining the image of such a stand in that case.

It's a religion. A rather new one that the author of their holy book has denounced. Called it a work of science fiction. Oh yeah, and the whole child abuse, no freedom of information... Little things like that, you know?

A religion is a cult, but a cult isn't a religion.

Scientology is a religion (by definition), and it is also a cult.

Re: Scientology

People should not make statements on what they do not know.
I once went to a scientologist as a way to help me learn more easily as i have been diagnosed with a learning disability.
We learned why it is hard to study, and how i can overcome it.
The problem is im too lasy to actually do that stuff on my own when i am learning. Haha.
But other than that, the guy was very nice, and also answered all the questions I had for him, and I had many questions.
We shared similar views about school and what it makes of people, he also told me the reason Scientology is a religion- being a religion (rather than an organization) is tax free. That is the only reason.
It is not really a cult too, there are many classes to be taken that are supposed to make your life better, you don't really have to get involved in it like the people and their testemonies you can read all over the net who "have escaped the claws of Scientology", because i know that many don't. I myself am not a scientologist, but i really don't get anonymus- "we do not forgive, we do not forget"?
come on, how many people died or were hurt by psychiatry, do you hear people saying that to psychiatrists?
what irritates me more about it is that they use this phrase very casualy, and it seems more like a threat than a statement, but as an israeli jew i know there is another similar saying which is much older- "We shall not forget, we shall not forgive"- which refers to the nazi death camps. And putting the scientologists, which from my experience were very nice, pleasent people on the same level as the nazis really boils my blood.

I agree with everyhting you said with one execption. Just because one scientologist is nice, it dosen't mean all scientologists are nice. Same with nazis. They're all just doing what they think is right. Smile

Religon is not bullshit. I may be agnostic but I highly disagree with your comments. Religon is the answer to life for some people. What's the problem with that? Your comment is highly irrational. How may I ask, is religon bullshit?

The term "Nothing is true, everything is permitted" comes to mind.

We base our evidence off of things we understand are true, but we honestly, never know. Everything we understand to be true right now could be complete bullshit.

QFT We just believe 'proven' theories because people may not have found information that exists that contradicts such 'proven theories'.

It's sorta always been my opinion that everything is opinion, and there is no such thing as face. Of course, as it stands, there are some opinions that are more believable than others, but there really is just no way of knowing.

We cannot know that anything is 'real', and hence we define 'real' with things we can find facts to support in our current perception of reality. There are no facts to support a religion. There are no facts to support non-religion. Non-religion is instantly the more desirable point of view. You cannot prove to me that an omniscient, omnipotent deity, why should I believe you?
