RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

RE: Rlog

I've realized that when I was little, I didn't care about school at all, I didn't care about the grades or the teachers' approval or anything. That started to change when I was around 10 or 11. I started to care a little about grades when I was in 5th grade, and it just got worse and worse until high school when I finally quit. I knew there was something wrong after that but I didn't know what until I read some books about it when I was 19.

RE: Rlog

So I was out for a walk and I decided to stop by the apartment of this guy I had met a few weeks ago. When I was in there after we'd been talking for a few minutes, he asked if I had a boyfriend and I told him yes and then he asked if it was working out and if I wanted to go out with him anyway, and I said no, and he asked if I wanted to cuddle, and I said no, and he asked if I wanted to make out, and I said no, and then he said "I'm not trying to make you uncomfortable." Bleh.

RE: Rlog

I was reading this blog and I want to do a little recap to see if I got my facts straight: You're in your 20's, you still live in your mom's house, and at one point you kicked her in the head. Is that correct?

If you want to be a different fish, you've got to jump out of the school.

I think it's time to leave the nest, little chickadee. Mama might be getting a little cramped with your big self all up on her like that.

RE: Rlog

Quote:1.You are almost never late for your appointments
YES NO
When I was younger, the answer would have been yes. Now it's no.

Quote:2.You like to be engaged in an active and fast-paced job
YES NO
No.

Quote:3.You enjoy having a wide circle of acquaintances
YES NO
I don't know how to interpret this question. I do have a lot of acquaintances, I think, but then again isn't that relative? When I'm at school, I'm saying hi to someone every 2 seconds as I pass them, but maybe other people know even more people than I do. And do I enjoy it? I don't know. I have no problem knowing people, that much is true. But do they mean actively enjoy it? Like I love the fact that I know a lot of people that I can say hi to? Well, sometimes I do, and sometimes I wish they'd just leave me alone. Am I not allowed to have different moods? There should be a third choice of DEPENDS.

Quote:4.You feel involved when watching TV soaps
YES NO
Before, I would have been like, wtf I don't want soap operas or whatever they are called. I remember my parents watching days of our lives and god that show was boring. But I watch degrassi and I've been told that that is a soap opera and I definitely do get involved in it. So YES?

Quote:5.You are usually the first to react to a sudden event:
the telephone ringing or unexpected question
YES NO
Used to be yes, these days, uh, it depends on where I am and what mood I'm in.

Quote:6.You are more interested in a general idea than in the details of its realization
YES NO
What???? I guess I think they are equally important, so no.

Quote:7.You tend to be unbiased even if this might endanger
your good relations with people
YES NO
I ... what I ... I have no idea. I would need someone ELSE to answer this question about me.

Quote:8.Strict observance of the established rules is likely to prevent a good outcome
YES NO
LIKELY? How in the fuck would I know? I'd say it's POSSIBLE, but likely? It depends on what the rules are!

Quote:9.It's difficult to get you excited
YES NO
It depends what you mean by excited, it depends on context.

Quote:10.It is in your nature to assume responsibility
YES NO
For what? Well, I like to help people, even strangers. Is that what this means?

Quote:11.You often think about humankind and its destiny
YES NO
No.

Quote:12.You believe the best decision is one that can be easily changed
YES NO
what is this i don't even

Quote:13.Objective criticism is always useful in any activity
YES NO
I have no idea how to interpret this question sans context!

Quote:14.You prefer to act immediately rather than speculate
about various options
YES NO
DEPENDS!!!!!

Quote:15.You trust reason rather than feelings
YES NO
This is retarded. I "trust" both of them, meaning I use both of them. If I'm trying to decide between two jobs and I'm like, well this one pays more, this one sounds more fun, whatever, it's all based on how I FEEL about those things. I try to quantify my feelings and then I use reason to choose the one I feel the best about.

Quote:16.You are inclined to rely more on improvisation
than on careful planning
YES NO
It depends on the situation and my mood.

Quote:17.You spend your leisure time actively socializing
with a group of people, attending parties, shopping, etc.
YES NO
It depends where I am. When I lived in stephenville, I was often with a big group, hanging out in some guy's apartment. When I was in fort worth, I spent most of my time with my best friend and we would sometimes surround ourselves with a big group of followers. When I lived in Austin, I was I suppose a social butterfly. But lately I've been in places where I don't know anyone and all I do is sit in my apartment/house. I spend my free time posting on stupid forums and making charts.

Quote:18.You usually plan your actions in advance
YES NO
I make lots of plans but I rarely follow through on them.

Quote:19.Your actions are frequently influenced by emotions
YES NO
How could they not be? Desire is an emotion.

Quote:20.You are a person somewhat reserved and distant in communication
YES NO
I don't know. Used to not be, but then I had a .. some kind of .. anxiety attack or something, and since then I've been different. Still, it depends on who I'm with.

Quote:21.You know how to put every minute of your
time to good purpose
YES NO
Yeah, I know HOW. But I don't do it. I think I used to, because I always did what made me happy. But now I've been destroyeded by school. But then again "good" is really subjective; maybe what I'm doing is good, because it's what I need, somehow.

Quote:22.You readily help people while asking nothing in return
YES NO
Depends who the person is. If I help a stranger with something, I'm not going to take their name and address so I can go get my payment later. But if it's someone I see all the time, I'll expect them to be a friend back to me and help me when I need it.

Quote:23.You often contemplate about the complexity of life
YES NO
Um.... what? Like, the complexity of my body? Or of social life? Either way, I don't sit around going, "Woah, so complex...." so wtf is this question about anyway.

Quote:24.After prolonged socializing you feel you need
to get away and be alone
YES NO
I guess so. I think it's called being tired.

Quote:25.You often do jobs in a hurry
YES NO
What jobs? If it's something I hate, I'm going to do it very very slowly. That is, I do it for 5 seconds and then take a 5 hour break, repeat till I decide to just go ahead and fail that class.

Quote:26.You easily see the general principle behind
specific occurrences
YES NO
I don't see the specific occurances behind this stupid question. The problem here is that I don't have an obsessive memory about myself. I'm sure I've sometimes seen a general principle behind some examples, but I don't remember how easy it was or how often it's happened.

Quote:27.You frequently and easily express your feelings and emotions
YES NO
I guess so.

Quote:28.You find it difficult to speak loudly
YES NO
Depends.

Quote:29.You get bored if you have to read theoretical books
YES NO
Um... not enough data to answer this question. It probably depends on the subject of the book. And my mood.

Quote:30.You tend to sympathize with other people
YES NO
With who? About what? I don't sympathize with mass murderers. But when others are in pain, I feel it too. But that's called empathy. When people do mean things to me, I usually have no idea why they are doing it.

Quote:31.You value justice higher than mercy
YES NO
I don't know. I guess not?

Quote:32.You rapidly get involved in social life
at a new workplace
YES NO
No, but this isn't a very fair question as I didn't ever have any jobs when I was a kid, and I think the way I was when I was a kid is my true self and how I am now is a symptom of piles and piles of bullshit.

Quote:33.The more people with whom you speak, the better you feel
YES NO
Depends.

Quote:34.You tend to rely on your experience rather than
on theoretical alternatives
YES NO
Depends. When it comes to what food to eat, there's no way to predict what will taste good, so I usually go with something I already know I like. But I'm always trying something new regarding exercise. Hm. I guess since I test things out instead of just imagining, then the answer is YES?

Quote:35.You like to keep a check on how things
are progressing
YES NO
I guess so.

Quote:36.You easily empathize with the concerns of other people
YES NO
I guess not.

Quote:37.Often you prefer to read a book than go to a party
YES NO
I don't know. Who's at the party? How do I feel? What's the book about?

Quote:38.You enjoy being at the center of events in which
other people are directly involved
YES NO
I don't understand this question.

Quote:39.You are more inclined to experiment than
to follow familiar approaches
YES NO
Depends. Maybe I do them equally. Again, I don't memorize this kind of shit about myself.

Quote:40.You avoid being bound by obligations
YES NO
I guess so.

Quote:41.You are strongly touched by the stories about people's troubles
YES NO
Depends what the troubles are. If it's "my slave keeps trying to run away", then no. If it's "my dad sold me into slavery" then yes.

Quote:42.Deadlines seem to you to be of relative, rather than absolute, importance
YES NO
Doesn't that depend on who set the deadline to me?

Quote:43.You prefer to isolate yourself from outside noises
YES NO
I guess not.

Quote:44.It's essential for you to try things with your own hands
YES NO
I guess so... "essential" might be too strong though.

Quote:45.You think that almost everything can be analyzed
YES NO
Maybe so, but not necessarily by me. I spent years trying to analyze why I failed so miserably at college my first year and never figured it out.

Quote:46.You do your best to complete a task on time
YES NO
Depends.

Quote:47.You take pleasure in putting things in order
YES NO
I suppose so. All I ever did with legos was organize them by shape and color, so assuming that's what this question means, yes.

Quote:48.You feel at ease in a crowd
YES NO
Depends. On my mood and what kind of crowd it is.

Quote:49.You have good control over your desires and temptations
YES NO
That's not even possible. You can't change your own desires. You can maybe sort of brainwash yourself, but you can't just decide, "I'm not going like cake anymore."

Quote:50.You easily understand new theoretical principles
YES NO
I need some fucking examples in order to be able to answer this question.

Quote:51.The process of searching for a solution is more
important to you than the solution itself
YES NO
Depends.

Quote:52.You usually place yourself nearer to the side
than in the center of the room
YES NO
Lately, yes; when I was younger, no.

Quote:53.When solving a problem you would rather follow
a familiar approach than seek a new one
YES NO
Depends. How much time do I have? How well have old solutions worked in the past? What's my mood?

Quote:54.You try to stand firmly by your principles
YES NO
Um...... I don't think it's possible for anyone to really go against their own true principles. You might go against what you THINK your principles are or should be.

Quote:55.A thirst for adventure is close to your heart
YES NO
What? Um, I guess so.

Quote:56.You prefer meeting in small groups to interaction
with lots of people
YES NO
Yes.

Quote:57.When considering a situation you pay more attention to
the current situation and less to a possible sequence of events
YES NO
I don't know.

Quote:58.You consider the scientific approach to be the best
YES NO
You mean the logical approach? Of course. That's tautological, not a matter of opinion.

Quote:59.You find it difficult to talk about your feelings
YES NO
Difficult as in I get all choked up, or difficult as in I can't find the words to explain myself?

Quote:60.You often spend time thinking of how things
could be improved
YES NO
I do that sometimes, but I don't think "often".

Quote:61.Your decisions are based more on the feelings
of a moment than on the careful planning
YES NO
Depends on the type of decision and my mood. I often make intricate plans on the spur of the moment. And then I don't follow through with them.

Quote:62.You prefer to spend your leisure time alone
or relaxing in a tranquil family atmosphere
YES NO
These days, I hate my family. I think I used to love them, a long time ago. I prefer to spend my leisure time going on adventures with one or two friends or relaxing with said friends. And/or listening to music and singing.

Quote:63.You feel more comfortable sticking to
conventional ways
YES NO
I don't know. I guess so.

Quote:64.You are easily affected by strong emotions
YES NO
My own? How could I not be, given that they are strong? Although, once I had a strong urge to kill myself that persisted for several hours, but I didn't do it. So fuck I don't know.

Quote:65.You are always looking for opportunities
YES NO
Um... not always. Well, it depends what you mean by looking. I guess I keep my eyes open while I'm doing things.. but I don't go out searching.

Quote:66.Your desk, workbench etc. is usually neat and orderly
YES NO
No.

Quote:67.As a rule, current preoccupations worry
you more than your future plans
YES NO
No.

Quote:68.You get pleasure from solitary walks
YES NO
I used to, when I was in that terrible terrible time called 7th grade. Now I prefer to walk with someone else. When I was a little kid (younger than 12) I was equally fine with either.

Quote:69.It is easy for you to communicate in social situations
YES NO
I don't know? I'm not sure what this means. Isn't any situation invoving communication a social situation?

Quote:70.You are consistent in your habits
YES NO
Isn't a habit by definition something you do consistently?

Quote:71.You willingly involve yourself in matters
which engage your sympathies
YES NO
Huh? Like, helping someone because I feel sorry for them? I don't know wtf this is about.....

Quote:72.You easily perceive various ways
in which events could develop
YES NO
I guess not.

I had a dream that I found the perfect name. I think I actually found several "perfect names" though. One of them, I have a vague memory, was from later in the alphabet. I can't remember what it was. One I remember is Alex. Silly.

I'm making a list names. I'm going through babynames.com. Perhaps after I go through that I will look at other names websites too, though really the most common names will be on any of them and I want a common name.

Most of the names I like are either not really names or very rare. They mostly aren't included in the long list.
I really love the name Dacian.
I'm getting sleepy, but considering trying to stay awak till it's light outside. Maybe I can go for a walk before I go to sleep. Also, my mom is asleep on the couch, which is where I'm supposed to sleep, because I don't have a bed.
